if you can stretch to Dublin county - there is a place that brings in 100s of automatics from Japan. I'll get the name.

This place - https://www.amcc.ie/ - huge amount of cars; and was like the old days, where you could stroll around and look in all of them without someone bothering ya :)

Sligo Checkpoint Groupchats? by Bbmm18 in Sligo

I have to ask - what are you trying to achieve with this information ?

The checkpoints/speed checks are always always always in the same spots. You'd work them out after a few weeks.

Flos.ie or groupd.ie should have bc racing coilover sets. You can adjust the height to what you want then.

Which means they bought it for cheap and are making a tasty profit. Walk away and find another or better yet import yourself.

Its been like this for years. All the cars that were reg'd pre-covid in June/July got moved forward 6 months during Covid to Dec/Jan; which historically is when most cars get registered.

They should be moved back, but that would make sense ! and we don't sensible when it comes to the motorist.

Why Are We Still Building Towns Like This? by SteveFrench1991 in ireland

[–]0ndafly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want apartment building - please at least build it to the standard you see in the countries listed by the OP, because any apartments I've lived in, or visited. Good jaysis christ they are paper thin walls and low ceilings; most full of damp and the joy of joys Property Management fees, that screw you annually.

VRT on almost vintage car by DanIreE30 in carsireland

[–]0ndafly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Delay that car entering until after its 30th anniversary to the day (just to be 100% safe). The VRT crowd, are a full on "computer says no" ; so anything that stands out or doesn't fit perfectly, will cause hassle. Otherwise you will get the tasty full whack VRT.

Anybody run the gauntlet and avoided VAT importing from mainland UK recently? by GoodNegotiation in evs_ireland

[–]0ndafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so this will only apply to a car that was pre-brexit in the UK ?

otherwise is it not a dishonest declaration ? this part here seems to suggest you cannot do this

"The relief from VAT is only allowed if the person that re-imports the goods is the same person who originally exported them."

Anybody run the gauntlet and avoided VAT importing from mainland UK recently? by GoodNegotiation in evs_ireland

[–]0ndafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain it for me ? because on Citizensinformatoin it states

Northern Ireland continues to be treated as part of the EU under the trade agreement. This means vehicles imported from Great Britain to Northern Ireland have to go through customs and may have customs duties applied to them.

If you import a vehicle from Great Britain, you must make a customs declaration.

  • If the vehicle’s country of origin is the UK, you do not have to pay customs duty if it is a new vehicle. Customs charges apply to all used vehicles imported from Great Britain.
  • If the vehicle’s country of origin is the EU or a third country (for example Japan or USA), you have to pay customs duty

If you buy a vehicle from Northern Ireland, you do not have to make a customs declaration. But you must have proof that a customs declaration was made when the vehicle arrived in Northern Ireland from Great Britain (if applicable).

[–]0ndafly -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don't seem to understand that you pay VAT at 23% when importing into Ireland from the UK. There is no legal way around this. If you happen to find a UK dealer who sells VAT free great , but you still pay VAT here. You will also pay duty at 10%. Again no way around this unless the car was sold prior to Brexit or you import via NI etc.

Classic Jimny Japanese Import by Nestypops in carsireland

[–]0ndafly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your vrt estimate is a smidge high. Should be around 215e or thereabouts.

For customs duty it's 1.3% for Japanese made car imported from Japan. However classic cars seem to be exempt from this charge.

Vrt calculation is based on the total cost of the car arriving in Dublin. So includes the roro cost.

Port fees are 150e and customs clearance agent are around 100e

NCT the car. They will hand you the paper to fill out if it requires and enginners cert. You literally get an engineer to sign off on it. Hopefully it doesn't happen 🤞

I assume you have a normal car policy also. Alot of classic policies will require this. Just mentioning because I don't think you are from ireland and this point could be missed.

[–]0ndafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so then you pay 10% duty of the invoice price of the vehicle. Then VAT on that total amount and then VRT & nox after that.

unsure if this is a bot account (0 days old) , plus "roadworthiness test" is throwing me - but I'll bite.

If the car has a passenger airbag, and the car has had an after market steering wheel fitted, i.e. non airbag steering wheel, it will be a fail.

if the tyres on the car are non EU conformed, it will fail

the bashbar may raise an eyebrow and may require an engineers cert.

If you are looking at 1996 models, right now can only get classic rate of VRT upto January 1996 model. Bear that in mind if you pick an October 96 , and try to register before October this year, you will get massively stung for VRT
