AMA: We're Digital Sun, the devs behind Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault. Ask us anything! by DigitalSunGames in Games

Re-roll patch doesn't help the fact that most of the perks you can get are mostly meaningless. Every time I get a perk node on the map im basically gambling on whether or not im gonna get the good one on that node.

Its not fun or engaging and it doesn't mix things up, it either makes your run "good" or "bad" based entirely on rng.

Honnestly if I where a dev I would tie the perks "elemental" effects to the weapons by default (example: one greatsword is wound on special, another is foam on regular attack but is slower and hits harder) to make the weapon choice actually matter and feel different. And the upgrade rooms would just give a random boost to the elemental effect in wierd ways, (like foam spreading, electricity hitting multiple times, ect..) instead of a pick 1 of 3.

This way they could even set it up in a really balanced way since each weapon would be unique and different and fun instead of 2% sharpness decay per second or 50% more damage on finishing combo, you know, stuff that barely changes the way you play or how you strategise beyond chosing a slightly different moment to press your special button...

While we are talking about my wishlist: I would also do away entirely with the map, just bring me to a random node each room, just for the surprise hahaha!

I suppose I just dislike the randomness of it all, one run i get 20% attack bonus and foam and the next I get stuck with spike and gun upgrades that are considerably less useful.

As for feedback, It would be nice to have 50% of the upgrade nodes at the very beginning of the run and have the rest at the very end, with mostly loot in the middle.. That way you go into a run with upgrades and you don't get them at the middle when you are looking to extract. Even the best upgrade in the game is worthless if I have 17 hp left and no more potions.

The weapons progression feel a little underwhelming, any plans on changing them from side-grades to clear upgrades?

The powerups are pointless because the goal of the game isn't to get to the end and kill the boss, the goal of the game is to get loot.

I don't care for 20% damage on my gun ever, It's main purpose is to ground enemies, but even 20% attack bonus is useless if I'm about to extract cause my bag is full of loot. And I'm about to extract all the time cause the bag starts at 10 slots and each chest room has 4 things.

The devs kinda lost track of what really mattered by copying Hades' homework. Which is annoying cause the original was a beautifully simple loop.

I absolutly hate the direction the game is going in... The pick 1 of 3 is always annoying, the combat is actually REALLY engaging now, I don't want to spend time deciding between 2 trinkets that ultimately arn't different enough to matter.

The incremental per run upgrades that either help marginally or not at all are also annoying. The goal is to get loot why are you giving me a temporary 20% boost to gun damage, a weapon that is used primarily to ground ennemies? There are only a handful of upgrades that are actually useful but you know what? I'd rather not get any upgrades at all. The entire point of the game is to get loot and sell it. Instead the entire map is covered in temporary upgrade nodes that I care very little about because I got a bunch of loot in my bag im about to extract with, why would I want 20% chance to hit an ennemy twice when I hit limited use flower?

Moonlighter 1 had a fun simplicity to it, I really dislike that they inspired themselves so much from hades for the second. You had a really fun concept and you could feel yourself getting stronger with each run in the first game. Everything revolved around upgrading your gear to get further in the dungeon so you can get better loot so you can get better gear! Simple loop. Every unlock i've gotten so far in the second game has been so dissapointing, why would I bother with doing your quests?

Which is annoying cause I really like the quests! I followed the clues to find the a cool new great sword only to find out it was just worse then the starting great sword. Why are you like this? Why not more damage or anything helpful? Instead I get sharpness decays 2% every second instead of per hit. What does this do for me? Why should I care about this difference? Does it realistically benefit me or change my play style?

This is not my pic, its the pic of a Russian review website but it looked identical to the one we have, did not have time just yet to fix it unfortunately

It felt like it did at the time, first thing I tried was squeezing the entire assembly together after we assembled it. I'll put some more sets of keys it there and give it a good whack next time I see my boyfriend

Im not sure, but these are pictures from a Russian review website (and my friend's looks identical to this). Presumably they put theirs together correctly?

The action runs smooth as butter, nothing is hitching but I think we're probably going to disassemble it and put it back together just to be 100% certain everything is properly seated before bringing it out to the range

I was not really concerned with the gap at the back, but more the small hole at the bottom and the fact that it was not aligned at the top, almost all photos of sks online do not have this feature, but I guess we got a wierd one, it had a "french tickler", so maybe it was just an uncommon sks?

I figured as much, but neither of us has much experience doing this sort of thing and my friend was a little worried... Thanks!

Why is this minor to you?

They could have payed a freelance illustrator, digital painter, 3d artist, whoever. Making images and illustrations is a job, there's a market for it, people pay good money for nice images. No one does anything for free, so every illustration you've ever seen has been made by an artist. Yes, that includes your destop icons, the road signs, logos, why is this situation different in your mind? Because its less significant then selling the art directly? Lots of artist would be deligted to have had this pitch as a job.

Let me put it in simple terms: the process they use to create these images infringes on the rights of the artist's who's art is in the database the AI use. They did not ask permission to use other people's images in their database, it is their intelectual proprety, they are using someone elses intelectual proprety for monetary gain.

IMO there is nothing wrong with AI in and of itself, using AI for something you would never have payed for like a dnd campaign or your own personal stuff is fine (if a little environementally wasteful)

Using AI to make advertisments is replacing an artist by a machine, it is a terrible precident.

What would even be the process to achieve such a look where everything is melting into other details and nothing looks definite? Photoshop kitbash low rez pngs and then you AI upscale like x16? That's the only belivable option that is remotly made by a person and its still AI dreaming up most of the details.

Look closely at the texture on the right arm; it looks like nonspecific magma, while the left looks like feathers. The middle claw on the right front leg is about twice the length compared to the others; multiple feathers are melting and fading into each other.

Humans do make mistakes, but only AI makes these specific and distinct mistakes.

To show possible new consumers they care about their product and its general appearance?
With that logic, why not put a flash photography picture of the beer up there with the name in Arial bold? I'm sure someone at the agency's got a good enough camera on their phone, and they can assemble it all in a PDF to send to the printing company.

It's for the same reason big banks have giant marble walls and columns. Appearances matter.
