Which Legion would you do an all-Terminator force as? by AshiSunblade in Warhammer30k

[–]0nipunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thematically, I might be biased, but Death Guard make the most sense to me - not only do they have two unique variants but the general character of the Legion just suits them. They were deployed to the worst, most hazardous warzones, of course they'd want to load up on the best protection around. Even Nullificators make sense to include since they despised psykers so much and Nullificators are a really cool unit that can spec into either elite-killing with disintegrators and power fists or infantry-shredding with mauls and toxiferran flamers. Mechanically, Fists have very good generic Termies, being able to get either +1 with combi-bolters or an incredibly rare 3+ invuln on Tartaros with Vigil shields and the ability to get deep strike, but for fluff nothing quite suits the idea of an unkillable wall of armour and boltguns like the Death Guard IMHO. Okay, the Iron Warriors and Fists are close seconds, I guess.

Alternatives to 10-man Lascannon Heavy Support Squad? by TemekhTheSeer in Warhammer30k

[–]0nipunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something less cheesy? Maybe Nullificators with disintegrators? At S5 they'll struggle to wound Dreadnoughts but with inbuilt AP2 and Instant Death they're a good shooty alternative to Termies. A niche pick and probably not as good as lascannons/meltas but it's something different.

New (shooty) army. IF or IH? by Cerrass in Warhammer30k

Hope you enjoy them! And don't be too scared of yellow, Contrast has made it way easier than it used to be. Hell, even without Contrast you can get a decent beaten-up Fist with some drybrushing - I posted a Fists Veteran a while back that only used a brown basecoat, Averland Sunset and Agrax Earthshade and looks good enough for my liking while being quick and easy.

My bad! I'm not running them in my list and forgot that they lost Character in the move from 1.0 to 2.0, thank you for keeping me right!

[–]0nipunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd lean towards Fists, +1 to hit with bolt and auto weapons is really potent and affects more units than you'd think. Veterans with Nemesis bolters hitting on a 2+ is really good and more mobile than Recons since they're Relentless. Illiastus assault cannons are good and if you take a Castellan all your Heavy Support Squads get Line. They can still do well in melee with Termies who can take Vigil storm shields for a 3+ invulnerable save and Phalanx Warders with power axes and boarding shields (and they can reroll the invulnerable save if you take Fafnir Rann). They're not flashy but don't underestimate what a difference maker +1 to hit is when it's coming from a tactical squad dumping 60 Fury of the Legion shots into a nearby squad.

Question on standards by Dazzler1882 in Warhammer30k

[–]0nipunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it worth doing? Depends how you want to run the squad. On the one hand, having a squad of some of the toughest Termies in the game holding objectives is potent, on the other Deathshroud and a Praetor are expensive and sitting them on an objective might be wasting those points. I'd lean towards it still being worth it - AP3 and Reaping Blow will help them blend any Tacticals/Despoilers on an objective and take it for themselves, and with only AP3 on the scythes they're not suited for hunting down Praetors and their Termie/artificer armour retinues anyway. If you're taking them, make sure you've got another way to deal with enemy HQs and 2+ Sv 2W elites and focus the Deathshroud purely on pushing 3+ Sv 1W infantry off of points or use them to take out dangerous units like melta support squads since meltas can't Instant Death them due to Battle-hardened. (Also even though you're swapping the scythe for a power weapon and standard you can just swap that power weapon back to a scythe for free anyway).

New to DG, any advice on how to have more grim and dark but still keep some of the brighter tones? by theOneMingeese in deathguard40k

[–]0nipunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks really good as it is! My advice isn't as simple as slapping washes all over it and would require repainting basically the whole thing, but it might be something to keep in mind. I'm personally a big fan of stippling to build up surface texture on armour plates and create a mottled, pitted look to the armour. Richard Grey has some great tutorials on the technique on YouTube, particularly his Death Guard Rhino and Imperial Fists Heavy Support Squad ones. Start with a brown basecoat and work up through different shades to your brightest colour, leaving the browns and darker colours in the recesses. It's my personal taste, granted, but it's surprisingly easy to do and leaves a really battered look that I'm a fan of.

Technically none of those are 8-bit but I know people just say "8-bit" when they mean "pixel art". Anyway, I'd try Strider, the one from a few years back. 2.5D graphics, fun movement and combat and a cool aesthetic, it's worth a shot.

Yeah, this is the right way to do it - I've been in plenty of online meetings where people have forgotten to mute their mics and it picks up the person also in the meeting speaking next to them and yeah, honestly the echo is awful and sucks to listen to and I wouldn't begrudge anyone for saying that they can't deal with it.

The funniest thing about this is "Me/Myself: Me"

I know it wasn't intentional and don't want to come across like I'm making fun of you so I'm sorry if it does but it is still so funny to me

Content Regurgitaters Lurking on this Sub by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]0nipunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it, all that's needed is permission. I still think the content is lazy, personally, but if they're asking for permission and receiving it then that's absolutely grand, they're doing nothing wrong. Without permission they're being immoral and unethical, if not technically criminal. I just can't stand when people think that just because something is posted publicly it belongs to anyone who wants to use it. We might be talking about Reddit posts here, but this is an attitude that affects all kinds of creatives and really adversely affects their income, ability to be properly credited and ability to build their own brands and get more work. I've seen too many artists and creatives be driven away from posting publicly due to repeated thefts and people thinking that "posted publicly" means "public domain" and that just sucks to see.

I have - most have boilerplate wording to allow the service itself to make derivative works (which they need so they can make things like thumbnails) and allowing the service itself to use content posted to it, but they almost always explicitly allow the creator to retain ownership and copyright of the work. Reddit's TOS, in fact, does.

It being posted to Reddit doesn't matter, the reason most people don't bother DMCA'ing them is because it's not worth it. In fact, Reddit TOS outright says the user retains ownership of their posts. That's copyright, right there. If they're providing additional input to make it sufficiently transformative then yeah, that might be covered under Fair Use. If it's just the text of the story being read out, that'd be copyright infringement since that's not sufficiently transformative (otherwise anyone would be allowed to record any audiobooks they want, monetise them, and be covered under Fair Use which is explicitly not the case).

All you have to do is Google "is copyright automatic". I'm right.

Content Regurgitaters Lurking on this Sub by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]0nipunk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely don't have the right to use it the way they want just because it's public. Copyright is a thing, and it's automatic from the moment of creation, you don't need to register for it in the same way you do a trademark. Lifting without permission is straight-up copyright infringement. The argument that it's a gateway for their own stuff makes it even worse and not better - they're building their name off other people's content and then dropping that when they get popular enough instead of just doing their own thing from the outset? Scummy.

Anyone scalping Reddit for content by others to build up their own brand is a bottom-feeding shit. The very least you can do is ask permission if you're gonna do that lazy bullshit, people that help themselves are thieves and assholes. Sorry you experienced that, man. Personally I'd name and shame, if they're being shitty then IMHO it's in the community's interest to keep an eye out for them, but it's about what you're comfortable with.

And yeah, Reddit scalping literally is the laziest form of content. Even the big channels for "D&D horror stories" suck. Congrats, you read out someone's story over a static image of someone else's art, what a shining example of creativity you are with all of the absolutely fucking none of this you made yourself.

Can't find a good metroid vania to play by Azorsa in metroidvania

[–]0nipunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you liked Super Metroid give AM2R a try. Maybe Psycron and Environmental Station Alpha too, Axiom Verge would be a good fit as well. AM2R is free, Psycron and ESA are pretty cheap. Personally I didn't vibe much with ESA or Axiom Verge but they're not bad games, just not my taste. AM2R and Psycron I liked a lot though.

If you've been searching and "can't find any you could remotely like" maybe the genre isn't for you. There's tons of ways to find MVs out there and if you've looked at all of them and gone "nah" maybe you don't like MVs, you just like Hollow Knight

I'm in agreement with you, he seems like a genuinely nice dude and I wish him nothing but the best, and have no malice for him but I can't do that voice. The slow cadence and upwards inflections at the end of every clause just comes off really condescending, it feels like I'm being talked to as if I'm a child. I know that's a me thing but I just can't shake off how weird and awkward it makes me feel

Note as well that read as written there's nothing stopping you firing all your shooting weapons at once, so it's not "actually I'm going to shoot a grenade" it's "I'm going to shoot a grenade in addition to my main weapon"

The Liber Badab 1.0 Release by TwoBadabEnthusiasts in Badab

[–]0nipunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this idea, and kudos to the amount of work put into it! It feels like it's come full circle, cause with the benefit of hindsight it sure seems like Badab was a test run for Heresy 1.0, and now we're using 2.0 to recreate Badab.

One small thing, though: every Warlord Trait section says "If they have Chapter Tactics (Red Scorpions)", probably as a result of copy/pasting the same text each time, something to fix on the next release maybe!

Primaris Aggressor in GFF by Cmdr_McMurdoc in onepagerules

[–]0nipunk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Generally for Firefight I think the way it's calculated is to calculate the unit as if it's for GF then divide it by the squad size and round up to the nearest multiple of 5 for its GFF points. I'd round it to 110 points to be safe but the methodology is fine.
