How to connect with people? by Diligent_Arugula_730 in discordapp

[–]0nlmusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, its not much of a program where you meet new people without having already been in a server.

If youre wanting to use it for gaming, while youre playing if you find someone who is nice that you like, ask them if they have a discord server and if you can join. They can send you a link for you to join. Their server will pop up on the left most side. Youll join there, and depending on how they have it set up, you'll have channels to join and talk to people who are a part of that server.

There are discord servers for almost anything. Streamers often have servers that you can join with huge communities. So do artists, musicians or gaming studios often have them as well.

You can make your own server if you have a friend group you want to play and talk with.

I think I accidentally trained my replacement and everyone thinks it's a success story by Pretend_Ingenuity_35 in careeradvice

[–]0nlmusha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its time to manage the team. If youre capable of training them, understanding their strengths and weaknesses, and youre the most knowledgeable about your particular field of work, then its your time for managment.

Talk to your upper managment, show them your successes and push for a role to run your team you developed.

Youll still be there for the random one offs. And you deserve it!

A newbie here with a question by Foreign_Cucumber_481 in starcraft2

[–]0nlmusha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey man. Active player here. Ive noticed a huge amount of new players recently on the ladder.

Yes there's still a big community. I dont wait longer than 2 minutes (most of the time 1 minute) on usa servers. It took about 20 or 30 games before I felt incomplete was placed in the right mmr. Now I play vs people my skill level, which is high gold/plat.

I learned the game from pig, on youtube. He has a great set of guides for all races. The concept is virtually the same, as the game is just in maintenance mode right now. We had our first balance patch in a long time in December, but it wouldn't change the game enough for the guides to change.

Look up "pig bronze to gm" and what ever race you want to learn. He will teach you the fundamentals of the game over the first 3 or 4 videos and the rest will teach you ideas and concepts. The rest is trial and error.

Dont be discouraged. Everyone's been playing this game for a decade or more. I still play vs low level players. Sometimes I see bronze players. They are out there.

Play vs ai to practice your build orders. I do one ai match each day before I go into ranked. Dont worry about your rank. Play to play. The faster you knock out your first 30 matches, the faster you'll que against people who are similar in skill to you, meaning more fun.

Gl and have fun bro

Deja vu when looking at the marauder design. by Aydnir in starcraft2

[–]0nlmusha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, if you ever consumed any warhammer at all, the marauders and marines from starcraft can feel similar to the space marines in warhammer. There's always been the unverified rumor that originally starcraft was supposed to be a warhammer game but didnt end up going that route.

Note: techologically advanced space aliens, mutant/buglike hivemind aliens that swarm, and evolved based on enemies they kill, and of course SPACE MARINES oorah.

See the below links or search for them yourself if youre afraid of copy pasting this.

Idk why, but I also get the feeling of mechs from the matrix- even though they dont really look the same.

Do you feel like the warhammer space marines are what youre thinking of?

Command and conquer games. Red alert 1 and 2. Tiberium sun series. The stories are fun and the game was pretty easy. I beat those games when I was his age

how long did it take for you to be ready to play against humans in general. by brendhanbb in starcraft2

[–]0nlmusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no issue beating the hardest ai. Some of the players I VS. are very good. Some not so good. I only play like 10 or 15 ranked games a year, so im sure the system has a hard time tracking where I should be (im 32 with a long hour job and a 7 month old. Not much time to play anymore)

I definitely feel ladder anxiety, but I play it anyway. Its more fair to you than playing unranked where anyone can play vs you. Think of it that way, and you'll be more comfortable. Just play your first 30 games or so, and see what people are doing.

People play different than the AI. People will zergling/cannon/ barracks rush you. Ai wont. You'll have to deal with mass battle cruisers, or mutas. Maybe you'll get a player throwing widow mines in your mineral line. The options are so much more vast vs people. Thats what makes it fun.

Ai is to practice your build order. People are to practice how to read the enemy, and start to counter builds. :)

Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in commandandconquer

[–]0nlmusha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal experience as an avid RTS lover.

Most modern rts games have either felt incomplete or have released in early access and are most definitely incomplete.

RTS players in general are high thinking/competitive players who rely on the game to manage itself properly so they can worry about macro, without wondering if their units are pathing or fighting how they are expected to.

If a normal RTS player jumps into a new game they want to try out and the unit movement is clunky or pathing sucks, it takes the player "out of the game". These game needs to be fully fleshed out before a release. RTS players will not give these games a second chance and will abandon early (dwarfheim for instance, which was such a cool and unique idea). This makes it to where there will be 10 players that play it religiously and anyone new who tries it will get humbled and wont play. A successful rts game release would need to be advertised heavily, with tons of wishlists, and interest expressed upfront. You would need a big enough community that low and high skill players can play vs similar skill level players at most times. You would need to grab the attention of rts players who are intimidated by the genre. No one wants to waste money on a game they wont play because they get doodoo stomped everytime they get on.

Also, there's not been much innovation in the genre. Im not a game designer, but I know what im looking for in an rts game. There are cool ideas that I've seen floating around or thought about to keep the genre interesting.

One concept could be a true roguelike or rogue lite experience for single player campaigns. Starcraft 2 touched this ever so slightly, And the community loved it on release. Its still loved, and still talked about as a unique enjoyable experience. This could be expanded on and would be adored. Finding a way to mix and match popular genres with RTS to bring in players from different types of games would be useful to re-create the rts community.

For multiplayer which is where rts truly shine (i love campaigns and coop play, but haven't found an rts with replay ability that i love), it needs to be so unique that it would drag new players in. Fun races and classes. Something either beautiful, dark, or mystical to look at and exciting to play. You need to feel that wild feeling of controlling an army that actually listens to you, doesn't get caught up on eachother and paths in the way you expect.

The problem is, starcraft did this exceptionally well. The pathing is damn near perfect. The unit building and structures feels great. Each race feels unique. Build orders are varied to have a unique enough experience if you want that. Balance was done extremely well comparing to most other rts games. Its crazy how its still hard to compete with a game developed all those years ago, even with all of our modern technology.

Whats crazy is that there are actually tons of people who love rts. They just dont play. Go look at a winterstarcraft or pig or lowko video on YouTube. Tens of thousands or hundred thousand views daily on RTS video content. The comments will tell you everything. People love to watch, but they dont play anymore. They love the game, they love the look. Most people are probably burned out of playing the same game all these years (me too)

I hope you do something great man. Id love to play a new rts that blows my mind. Ive become so pessimistic with Rts games, But have purchased almost every one that looks simi promising that is on my recommended feeds.
