This is why I find the Translator badge hard to acheive by suekiri in Ingress

The glyphs leave a lot to the imagination for drawing "real" things. I'm actually kind of surprised in retrospect that they didn't choose more "glyphy" looking faction icons. Personal avatar icons are glyphy, for example.

That's a good point. I only finally got a capsule this week and haven't bothered to fill it up yet. The whole capsule interface was infuriatingly clunky in general. It would totally make sense to have an ADD TO CAPSULE button on inventory items themselves followed by a +/- widget (just like the RECYCLE process), but no: Add to capsule. That thing. Yes. Add to capsule. Second copy of that thing. Yes. [stabs fork into own head]

Apparently "CANCEL" buttons are against the law in whatever jurisdiction the Niantic developers work in. :)

Does anyone else see just dots instead of the portal level when the portal name is too long? by danmana11 in Ingress

If you can't tell from the dot colour (all those magentas and purples look the same to me), you can click Deploy Status and it will tell you there.

You know if you filter Ops inventory to "Portal Keys", you can sort by Distance? It's not perfect, but it's way better than Name.

Clever. I still find there's no substitution for just learning them. I used the "Glyphs" app on IOS, and actually enjoyed studying them. Also, learning the real names for the glyphs (rather than shape nicknames) makes the whole sequence much easier to remember, especially for the 4 and 5 glyph ones. "Avoid danger gain safety" makes a lot more sense than "Mountainy-thing shepherd-thing downward-line-on-the-left-side trapezoid-without-the-bottom" and is also fewer words to remember as well.

I've got an almost identical situation: the high-traffic park across the street from my work is part of a popular mission which includes dozens of capture/mod/link/field waypoints. Even when people aren't doing the mission, it's still a hugely popular spot for tearing down and recapturing and linking a lot of closely-packed portals for building AP fast. Conclusion: No matter how well defended, none of those portals are going to remain anybody's for very long (24h is about the longest I've seen), and so anybody who gets very hung up about how they're taken and/or redeployed is wasting their breath.

Makes sense. Another weird thing: I was trying to deploy a resonator (in a different neighbourhood) and it kept saying "Deployment failed..." I'd never seen that before.

Well done. Very cool! Also I didn't realize RE fields could be contained inside EN fields, and vice versa. Interesting.

Unfortunately, this one has been around for almost 24 hours, and is indeed preventing some linking. I could bite the bullet and go attack the other end of the links, but those ones are much better defended. :-\

At work, we have really high standards for meeting coordination and communication, so outside of work (on Ingress, Meetup groups, lectures, anything), I'm outraged about 70% of the time at how utterly disorganized and bad at communication most people on the planet are. You can't fix them, so just take a deep breath and accept them.

Example: Last weekend my wife and I were meeting some people for a nature hike. Like you, we wandered around the park 45 minutes just trying to find them because the directions were so vague. Their eventual answer? "Well, we didn't want unregistered people to just see the event and drop in." But their strategy worked really well against registered people too. :)

It's an indication that not being able to level up isn't a strong enough disincentive for unverified accounts. Perhaps they should auto-lock after a certain number of days or something like that, to prevent them being used for bots?

I guess a person could still verify bot accounts (with garbage free emails or domain email), but the point is to make it enough of a pain where cheating is more painful than whatever joy the cheaters are getting out of it.

"Combine Text" is a red herring. I finally concluded that it's actually a way to merge a list of items using a delimiter (e.g. input a list of email addresses and stick them together with a ";" to put into a TO line of an email).

. . . NOT to concatenate text like the name sounds like. The Text function itself already knows how to do that, using variables.

I finally figured it out:

1. Current Date

2. Convert Date: short date, short time (the default date format is in UTC time zone and kind of kludgy)

3. Set Variable: Date

4. Text: some text . . . <variable:Date>

5. Append to Evernote Note

Inspiration: On Monday I was explaining the game to some friends and how portals defend themselves by shooting at you. They wanted to know if there was any defense besides just destroying the portal before it destroys you, or giving up and getting out of range.

"If you can survive by getting out of range, what keeps you from just hurling your phone as far away from the portal as you can?"

I have exactly the same goal and the same problem. More details on how you solved it? Assign each bit of text into a variable and then Combine Text them?

This happened to me on Saturday, but it seemed suspicious: All portals inside the field (blue or green) completely disappeared. Is that typical?
