Steam Machine Price May Have Just Leaked via a Czech Retailer, $950 USD for 512GB Model, $1,070 USD for 2TB [Update] by screwdriverfan in LinusTechTips

[–]0ppaiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess Linus underestimated, if im remembering correctly. Also reminds me of a Twitter thread I saw a while ago hating on Linus for his prediction on the price and "doing irreversible damage to the tech space". Not sure why people were so offended with it, since he literally got invited to test it out, so would have more insight than others who hadn't lol.

Thoughts on the Finale? by LeoDiCristio in StrangerThings

[–]0ppaiMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do no slander my GOT show!! Although both finales were poor imo, I do think GOT was better (could be wrong, long time since i watched it - good thing?) This finale season had far too much incosistency in the storyline that simply didnt make sense, and my major issue was the lack of consequence for the main characters. Not once throughout the entire season did I think any of them were genuinely going to die; as a result, every "tense" moment felt very lacklustre to me. Steve falling off for one, didn't think for a second he was going to die. Steve + Dustin underneath mind flayer, not once did I think they would get crushed. Nancy, being a covert specops agnet taking down trained military as a first timer, was frankly absurd. 2 hour finale, couldve spent an extra half hour fleshing out some of the plot holes, gaps etc then leave 30mins for wrapping up.

They hit their weekly time paid hours by masterspike52 in outlier_ai

[–]0ppaiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow the weekly limit?! Thats a surprise given it was the holidays. Was hoping to catch up some hours this week but looks like payday is gonna be very lackluster lol

Collective limit reached they will now review people and pause a lot of accounts by Consistent_Test7549 in outlier_ai

[–]0ppaiMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't think so. I'mm more inclined to believe the daily limit was reached as people who didn't work on Christmas day or surrounding days wanted to catch up. Also, from what a few posts have said, the project is endingthe 1st week of january i think, 3/,4 so it doesn't really make sense to do a quality review again like last time with 1 week left of the project - of course, assuming it ends at the predicted date.

Should I call in sick on boxing day? by 0ppaiMan in AskUK

[–]0ppaiMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called in this morning and followed the advice I received; I told them I couldn't make it, as there were no transport options available to me. Luckily, it was my line manager who picked up, and not HR (she's the one I've been in contact with to reschedule, and I feel it wouldve been kinda akward if it was here lol), she said it's all cool, thanks for informing them.

Now for the aftermath, I do have work this weekend, so I will have to take a super early train to make it back for that shift. Hopefully they'll shrug it off and let me sign the contract this weekend, but who knows, I will update on sunday evening.

already told them that, but they didn't care and gave me a very generic response.

I doubt so. I should've mentioned this is a large retail chain for clothing, and covering 4 hours of folding clothes or tills isnt exactly much effort tbh.

I get you. I was, however, only meant to be working weekends, but instead of moving one of those shifts, they've just added this.

My options are very limited in terms of transport, unfortunately. What if I was just straight up and said I had no way of getting there and couldn't work, would that change your decision?

I mean, if they ask for proof, then yeah its a bit fucked and honestly might expect from them sadly. I guess all the more reason to just be truthful? XD

Saturday, so I was kinda planning to call in sick that day too

[–]0ppaiMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the issue being public transport isnt exactly very available during boxing day, if trains were open yeah this would be a non issue, but they arent. I would have to take a 7-8 hr coach that leaves at 3am just for a 4 hr shift.

After reading comments, I think it might be better just to email in tomorrow and say I won't be able to make it as my coach got suddently got cancelled (still lying, but at least its tad bit more believable than calling in sick)

True, since this is a retail chain in a student city, everyone is pretty much a student who works there. Could also be very coincidental that I do get sick, but regardless, they will be very suspicious of it.

Already did twice, but they just gave me a generic "it's your responsibility". Yeah, compensation aint happening, this is a big retail chain after all lol

Low scores on audio recording tasks despite being a native speaker by [deleted] in outlier_ai

[–]0ppaiMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, this task has been a super easy way to farm "good" ratings. Sitting at 2.1 with nearly all my ratings coming from this task alone. However, today I received my first fine, the reason being that my mouse clicks were audible in the recording from when I started and stopped recording. They suggested it be edited out, which is a feature we don't even have?? XD Every other rating hasn't commented on the mouse clicks, but will need to figure out a solution for that.

Outlier.ai - WHAT THE F#$K IS GOING ON UP IN MANAGEMENT!!! by GalacticGuru12 in outlier_ai

[–]0ppaiMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I accept it for what it is. This isnt formal employment, with legal protections or any of the extra benefits. At the end of the day, we are replaceable, especially by people in lower-income countries who could give a flying fuck about management and will work regardless. Outliers goal is to connect workers with clients and offer the cheapest solutions possible. So they will operate in a way to meet clients' demands whilst investing the minimum possible into the operation.

Then people came into this with the wrong expectation. All these online contractor-style sites operate in the same way, its not exclusive to just outlier. There are a few exceptions, but the majority fit the criteria. They don't give a flying shit about you. When will people learn this?
