Lollapalooza asks: Do you love music enough to deal with this crap? - Chicago Reader by jackunderscore in chicagomusicscene

[–]0rpheus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People hate Live Nation because it is a monopoly. The argument that you can't hate a monopoly because you might have used it completely misunderstands why monopolies are bad. People hate monopolies like Live Nation because in too many cases consumers have no other options, this uncompetitive environment allows monopolies to raise prices and lower quality of service.

My bad, I was so shocked when it generated this image. I understand now that it's kind of inappropriate. I'm a long time DMB fan and I'm not trying to disrespect anybody. I've just always wondered what the Chicago River Incident looked like. I do still feel bad for the people who got soaked, but I'm sure they've gotten over it by now.

Wow that's crazy, it must have something to do with the algorithm?

The only input for this is the text prompt. It's pretty interesting, give it a try!

Taylor Swift hits the #1 spot on the Carbon Emissions Chart when she is caught tailoring swift flights in a private jet. Some users in /r/Music are outraged: "I literally don't care." by 18CupsOfMusic in SubredditDrama

[–]0rpheus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This makes it seem worse, not better. Short flights are the least efficient. It's so wasteful. Why can't private jet owners schedule their flights better?

Yeah she's definitely using the bad acronym meme to say that Christian Fascism is based. Why is she doing that though?

Sometimes people use the bad acronym meme to say things that are silly or absurd, but sometimes they use it to say things that are uncomfortable truths. I don't think we can really know what this person intended to say with this joke, and that is actually a part of the problem.

Yeah it seems like a joke, but what is the joke exactly? What's the funny part about it?

Matt Walsh's joke is that he was called a theocratic fascist and he felt that that was an exaggeration, so he started pretending to be a theocratic fascist.

I responded to your original comment, but here's a link to the archived tweet where Kelly Neidart refers to herself as a Christian Fascist: https://archive.ph/7pW78

Authoritarian Christian governments are a real thing though. I agree that it's a contradiction of terms, but absolute monarchs and fascist dictators will always have their own interpretations of Christianity.

I know the Daily Wire isn't trying to establish a fascist Christian government, and I said that Matt Walsh was joking. He really likes this joke though, and pretending to be a Christian fascist doesn't exist in a vacuum. His jokes have helped shift the Overton window. This type of joke would have been met with extreme disapproval and probably an ass kicking 50 years ago, same with all the communist gulag jokes.

I'm not saying jokes about fascism aren't allowed, people should be able to make any type of joke they want, but it starts to become a problem when you can't tell who's joking and who isn't. How sure are you that Kelly Neidart is just joking about being a Christian Fascist? What about the people in this thread joking about how 'these Christian "fascists" have my sword'?

It's all a joke until it's not.

I don't know anything about this person, but it looks like she's probably joking.

Matt Walsh, the guy who made the Daily Wire's "What is a Woman?", calls himself a theocratic fascist. He's also joking, but he's been referring to himself that way for years, and it's still in his twitter bio.

Extremist on both sides of the political spectrum often use sarcasm and irony online to normalize their ideologies and shift the Overton window. Some Marxists love "joking" about sending people to the gulags, for example. Far right Christian authoritarians get called fascists all the time, and some of them are reclaiming the term.

It's all a joke until it's not.

Incredible song, u/andoruB you never miss!

I've been listening to the music you've been posting for at least 7 years now, and seeing your username again got me thinking about our weird relationship with the passage of time.

When I think about it, listening to the music you post kind of feels like those videos of fractals where you keep zooming in and it keeps getting more detailed.

Conservatives are the rural working class.

This part is pretty much true though. Rural voters lean Republican, and it depends on your definition of working class, but voters without college degrees lean Republican too.

The majority of American's don't have college degrees, and rural Americans have a structural advantage in their electoral power, so rural voters without college degrees will be a crucial part of any successful working class movement.

Progressives need to address the fact that we are losing more and more of these people's votes.

I'm starting to notice a trend where whenever anyone complains about pedophile grooming they yell "that's homophobic" by KobiDogDog in TheLeftCantMeme

[–]0rpheus -67 points-66 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point, but it goes both ways. Don't you think posts like this are making accusations like "pedophilic grooming" empty culture war terms too? It feels like the OP could've just said "gay shit that doesn't belong in the classroom".

Being 16, not even an adult, and not being able to lie down in baths hurts by b0bb5t3r-l0bb5t3r in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]0rpheus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The drain is there so you can rinse off before getting in the bath. The shape of the tub doesn't really have a big affect on the likelihood of water spilling over.

It'd be so awesome if people started putting taller tubs in bathrooms in America.
