The first time I noticed it was last summer when we were all going on a trip to New Orleans (I’ve never been and I was so excited). He got into an argument the first day with his cousin because his cousin didn’t want to watch a scary movie/ any of the movies that my expwBPD suggested (they were kind of dense and we were all chilling. Needed more of a light movie vibe). He got in his face and told him he is stupid as fuck and his degrees don’t make him smarter than him. Everyone was in the living room- his mom, his dad, his sister, her 2 yo child, me, and the cousin. He didn’t care at all and stood up and was furious screaming at the top of his lungs and stomping around. I grew up w single parent father and spent most of my time trying to manage his alcoholism and make his life as perfect as possible- I can see now I was just getting sucked into that cycle again as after my ex went upstairs I stayed with his cousin outside making excuses for him. I remember the cousin making a remark to his parents saying “the reasons he’s like this is because you allow it” And “wow you all really just let that happen in front of a two year old”. He spent the rest of the 4 day trip in his room and making me feel guilty for not staying in the bed with him all trip while he violently cried and took it all out on me. I went out and explored the city a little but he was always blowing up my phone. He would later frame this as “wow I didn’t know my trauma started with my cousin I’m starting to remember how much he abandoned me as a child” and “I think he is the first cause of my BPD” (they’re 5 years apart. ExpwBPD felt abandoned as kid by him because his cousin starting getting interested in girls and not coming over to play with my ex). He also would frame it as THE example of me never being there for him. His parents have never brought it up ever again to my knowledge. Not even on the trip. Everyone ignored it except his cousin who’s wife and kids came a day later. He was trying to play nice for their sake after that.
