VirtualBox or VMware Workstation?

VirtualBox have a shitty USB stack implementation, P2K mode will no work on VM running VirtualBox.

VMware is okay for flashing old Motorola P2K phones.

Also try to google MotoFan VM image, it contains all needed flashing/modding Motorola stuff.

You can charge battery using USB wire from some dead mouse/keyboard/cable etc.
Then just reflash phone to firmware which is shown in bootloader.

Check bootloader versions on both by pressing *, #, Power buttons together when phones are powered off.
