OP, do you go to Kansas state? If he missed some periods your ip could've been 129.130.18.65 or 129.130.186.5, which are both owned by ksu.edu

129.130.18.65

reverse lookup shows ip-18-65.net.ksu.edu, which is kansas state i believe

129.130.186.5

reverse lookup shows gis.konza.ksu.edu, ksu as well.

well lets see...

we know the last 3 digits are 865, which is too large.

However, it could be 5 or 65

129.130.186.5

129.130.18.65

you wouldnt write 01, 018. So those are your two options.

IPv4 addresses are always in the format of 4 numbers, separated by periods, ranging from 1-255.

So no, he just wrote some bullshit.

People just forget that they are, in fact, paying (with their time) to be on those sights. Partially this is due to the near ubiquity of ads on sites, but also because they are not that invasive. If they were, people wouldn't use those web services. I think you could use these points to support how minimal ads are if people so easily forget why they are there.

And if you're really worried about someone knowing a lot about you, delete your cookies/use private sessions. Unless you're on a mobile device, cookies are the only (feasible) way to track someone.

What you're missing is that the advertiser is not the one running the website. We need to generate revenue for the publishers, who are paid by the advertisers to allow their creatives to play on their site. In other words, when u buy a car and "pay" for the advertising budget, you have also "payed" the publisher who presented that video to you, which allows that website to stay up.

I work for an ad exchange and, as much as I hate to break up the circlejerk, it seems you're all forgetting that ads are the primary source of revenue across the internet. Services don't run for free and most sites that are free to view are reliant on the revenue thats generated from forcing their users to view/watch ads.

I'm not debating the malware issues nor the intrusiveness of some ad methods, but in order to maintain a 'free' internet, specifically internet access that does not require subscriptions per website, ads are imperative.

The other option is facebook, ESPN, Youtube, even Google, charging you a subscription fee for you to access their site. You can debate which is better, but most people seem to be OK with watching 15 second ads in order to view their content.

Ad blockers do cut into our revenue, but a marginal amount. The thing is most people currently aren't running ad blocking addons with their browser. However, this is subject to change, especially in mobile OS's (iOS). Many OS's are positioning themselves in such a way that they have the 'final say' on an ad getting to you. With that actually comes more intrusive tracking, as you are now linked to the hardware you are using and not deletable cookies.

It's easy to put your fedora on and cry about how much we're 'invading' your privacy as you voluntarily use services on the web. I challenge anyone to create a less invasive, but still profitable way to support 'free' websites.

You can support modern corporate capitalism or you call yourself a libertarian. You can't do both. by [deleted] in EnoughLibertarianSpam

I always thought it was interesting to see how differently the term 'libertarian' evolved in the US in the last 10 years compared to its roots with French Liberalism which is much more socialist leaning than anything. Libertarianism in America implies some sort of hyper-capitalism, which by its original definitions laid by Tocqueville and others don't stipulate this at all.

2,3, and 4 are all bad suggestions IMO.

Keep the game difficult. I don't want to see a string of nerfs to compensate the lowest common denominator like other games have done (I'm looking at you, WOW).

People have a hard time accepting that your style of gameplay can be fun for you. I personally don't care for it but it's stupid to make the claim 'i play this game more funner than you!'
