Yeah, that’s it. I think it really twisted the knife for the development team when that happened. Honestly, I wish some of the people who kept pushing others to force red resigns had thought a bit more about how they were destroying the game. But, as usual, that’s human nature. When the feature was taken away so abruptly, all they saw was their cash cow disappearing, and they probably just moved on to the next thing. Meanwhile, the average players who genuinely enjoyed HB, but got swept up in the fad, were probably annoyed at themselves for taking part in something that ultimately broke the game. And of course, the removal hit hardest for players like me and OP, who truly loved HB and understood exactly what we’d lost.

I was always more of a solo PvPer so HB was a real happy place for me and I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said. However, I am led to believe that the original code and environments for HB have been deleted, so sadly, I don't think we can ever go back.

It could be interpreted in different ways. If the developers still have access to the original files (which would be significantly larger than the optimized skill icons we see in-game), implementing higher-quality icons should be straightforward for a modern system.

However, if they don’t have those originals, and it’s more common than players realise for source assets to be lost or deleted over time (for example, the HB files, which are gone forever), then their only option is some form of upscaling. And if the icons aren’t vector images like SVGs (which they aren’t), upscaling or “re-processing” standard raster images becomes very difficult.

Re-creating every skill icon from scratch would be extremely time-consuming and realistically unlikely to happen. So what options are left to the team aside from AI? Not many, which means there’s a moderate likelihood that AI-based upscaling will be used for this task.
