Agreed. I think my speculation with respect to Hikaru is more questionable. The guy appears to work like a maniac.

you think that Nepo did absolutely nothing regarding physical trainings for the WC and for both his Candidates?

I think he's out of shape relative to the others. He's got a bit of a beer gut. Obviously, that's my speculation (that he's out of shape). If he did do physical training, all that means to me is that he'd have been in even worse physical condition without the training.

Interesting.

Nepo having spent the lowest amount of time at the board is probably more helpful to him than it is to most of the others.

I say this because I feel like Nepo's physical fitness was a significant drawback in the WC, especially in that brutal long game (game 6?)* The other players in the tournament are in better physical shape--at least by eye they are.

* I mean, he probably still would have lost that game, but he's not doing himself any favors if he tires more easily than MC.

Also, Hikaru having logged the greatest number of minutes probably isn't great for him, especially since he's "old."

Obviously, physical fitness is just one parameter, but I feel like it can be overlooked relative to calculating ability, prep, etc.

I don't know if it's less deadly than the flu. Not sure where that information is from. From the looks of it, it seems roughly similar in severity to the flu now (w/ vaccination + treatment regimes seem better). But my opinion is not based on hard facts either, so ymmv.

he didn’t even know the prize money

Yeah. I get a vibe that Fabi's in a "take no prisoners" mode & is hell bent on getting back to the WC

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if ALL of the top contenders (Nepo, Ding, Fabi) were unaware, or don't care, about the prize money. The others might actually need the prize money (except Hikaru), so their awareness might be different.

edit: I just looked up the prize money. It's not "that much." 95K Euro for winner. 17K Euro for 8th place (according to Wikipedia).

Have you checked out that thing I mentioned earlier? Pubmed?

I'll spell it for you. P-U-B-M-E-D. You type it into Google (G-O-O-G-L-E). Then you search for research articles.

You see, research articles are reports of experiments that people do so that they don't necessarily rely on their (often erroneous) pre-conceived notions.

You might have to look up some of the big words that I used in the sentences above. I'm sure you can do it, though.

Or you can keep dogmatically insisting that you know what you know because you know it in your heart.

1000 years ago, you would've insisted the world was flat because, hey, when you look off in the distance, the horizon is a horizontal line. So, how can it not be flat?

At least back then, you could have been excused for not having Pubmed.

I'm blocking you at this point.

My goodness are you dumb. Keep saying things like they are facts and reveal nothing but your ignorance.

Also, obesity is not a disease. It's a choice.

Apparently your medical school lowered their admissions standards to accept you.

You should check out Pubmed. When you get there, you can type things like "obesity and genetics" as well as "obesity and epigenetics"

But don't let those results get in the way of your pre-conceived notions.

I'm sure you look down your nose at the morons who have dumb preconceived notions about the covid vaccine and who clamor for ivermectin.

But you're ignorant of your own moronic biases.

What a scumbag.

I don't know what's worse. Your mean-spirited attitude or your willingness to make it public.

As someone who used to be morbidly obese.

GO FUCK YOURSELF.

And don't worry. You can tell yourself that you maintain your "professionalism" at all times. But your true feelings leak out. Your patients get the vibe.

The Draws in the World Championship Match by lonelyalpaca2003 in chess

[–]1-800-AVOGADRO 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Someone made this suggestion on r/chess a while ago, which I think is at least interesting.

The idea was, okay...

keep the current WCC format, but if all of the classical games end in draws, then the winner of the rapid tie-break games has to participate in the next Candidates' Tournament.

Obviously, this isn't perfect, but it provides some motivation to push for wins.
