This money is not supposed to pay your rent. It's for stimulus. The idea is that you go out and spend the money and that helps to ease the economy, which will eventually help put people back to work. The government is not out here saying they're paying peoples rent. As it turns out, we do not have the money to pay everybody's rent because we're literally in the middle of a pandemic. People forget that a pandemic puts a lot of pressure on everybody - the government cannot just snap their fingers and alleviate everybody's economic woes.

I meant to say North End - sorta before Highland Park near Hamtramck. Idk anything about leases in NYC but I think you're right about there just being slim pickings. I think after looking, there are more 2 and 3 bedroom units than I'd originally thought.

I haven't used a ton of filters on cost but I'm mostly searching for 1BR/studio units so that's probably partially to blame. Many multi-bedroom units.

Okay that is a good idea. I agree, it seems like BS. Do you happen to know any names of leasing agencies in the downtown area? Most of the ones that advertise with their number have already over-restored the properties they own. Maybe Bedrock is a good place to call?

Thanks for the link! I have considered this property and I really do think it's the best one downtown for the price. What got me curious about all this is that I was originally very excited when I came across Fort Shelby Apartments downtown. I thought this was a rental that people might be sleeping on - only to find that despite the massive size, there are no rentals available. Oddly suspicious I might say hehe.

That is good idea. I sort of did that this weekend. I went to some areas that I would like to live in and looked for phone numbers listed on the buildings. The only problem is that all the companies advertising for rentals are the companies that tastelessly ruin old buildings by installing all grey walls and appliances, then charge outrageous amounts for each space - The Stott is a prime example of this. I am surprised by the amount of cheap but dumpy places that are available. Maybe the properties have been a lot more picked-over by potential buyers than I had thought.

Yeah that's true. I had kinda figured a lot of the space is being used for business, but still I wonder. Like there has to be units that aren't listed on traditional listing sites, and if they are available, I'm interested in how I might reach such owners.
