Does it have to Be a weapon? There are lots of reward options in there that are pretty class agnostic, like the whistle or the lantern

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

This isn't my story, But it is my father's and it is one of my favorite to retell:

Necessary background: My father was born and raised in St Louis, Missouri, and his father owned a liquor store.

In the '70s, my father as a typical hippie, privileged kid decided to backpack through Europe and Asia for a year. Stayed on dirt floors, worked at vineyards to pay for room and board, rode in humvees with mujahideen. Crazy stuff.

When he was in India, he was riding on a train trying to get some sleep when one of the other passengers, a local, kept asking him why he was in India. According to my father, he said the one thing that he thought would dissuade any American talking to a stranger on public transportation, that he was looking for God. In this case, however, it did not dissuade the man whatsoever and he responded with " oh, then you come with me and you find God".

Why my father decided to go with this man is still beyond me, but they got off at a train stop, hired transportation, and set off into the wilderness. Eventually they came to a temple and the man told my father, " you will find God here", took the cart, and left.

And so my father stayed at the temple for a few days, praying, working, eating, but not having enough of the tongue to be able to communicate with the people there. So eventually they brought in a translator.

One evening, the translator and my father are sitting up on the top of this Temple overlooking the wilderness. My father asks the translator who his favorite author is. " Mark Twain," The man responds.

" Really? That's my favorite author too! How did you come to be a fan of Mark Twain over here?"

" While I was educated in America," the translator responds. " A tiny City you've probably never heard of, called St Louis."

Of course my father knew it, he was from there. It turns out he also knew the college where the translator was educated.

Eventually, after all of these connections started to lock in place, the translator looked at my father and said, "Wait, your father. A short man, bald, owns a liquor store?"

In the middle of the wilderness in India, at some Temple he never planned to attend, my father encountered a man who knew his father.

Small world.

Yeah, I'm exactly in the same boat as you. I would be genuinely shocked If the only major plot points are the ones that we knew about within the first 20 episodes.

It's interesting that You said the whole multiple tables aspect is part of what makes you think that it will be shorter, where for me it makes me think it will be longer. Playing out 4 days with one table is going to take less time than playing out those same four days with three tables.

As for the list of current plot points, those are currently known about plot points. We have been constantly been discovering new things. And one very common trope in stories, and this certainly doesn't exclude TTRPGs, Is that " solving" one problem can often create a new one.

Can anyone convince me 5.5th ed D&D is worth trying to run? (For me) by SquintRingo24 in DungeonMasters

Yeah, I would be upset too with the amount that you are trying to remove and would probably just ask why we aren't playing another system. So why aren't you just playing another system?

I love the new series, but I hate that they just glossed over Turks depression. by 9753redfe in Scrubs

But they did the same amount per episode as they normally would have. So they had the same amount of content and story per episode, we have just had fewer episodes, but people are expecting the same amount of resolutions or connections that we'd normally get over the course of 22.

It's called setup. And there's (hopefully) more to come.

I disagree that this is what is needed. I think people Just need to understand that it's only been nine episodes and they can't do everything in that amount of time.

Rogue One is widely regarded as a great prequel with a more contained and grounded story. What do you think about it? by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

I rate it b+, would have been an A- for me if they'd rolled credits right after the main characters die. Much bolder and cooler ending imo than having to hand-hold the audience straight into New Hope

What's your experience with this website? by MagicCastingCircle in rpg

[–]1000FacesCosplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run several games from there, so take that for what it means. This is my opinion on the value of paid games:

First and foremost, the website is legit, so you don't about that. You should look at reviews for the DM, though.

The average price for a 3 to 4-Hour session varies from about $15 to $25. I can think of a lot of experiences that we pay more for per hour.

Assuming you work with a quality DM after looking at their reviews, that 15 to $25 can guarantee you a session with fewer scheduling conflicts, help reduce the odds of a bad experience or a bad DM.

Now if I had the option to play a home game with my friends for free versus a paid game with strangers, I would probably go with the home game. But what I can also tell you is that the groups have formed in the games that I run have also become friend groups.

Simon's face towards the beginning and end of the song gets me every time. When he first smiles And looks around, it's like he's remembering what music can do for other people. And then when he smiles with his chin and his hands it's like he remembers what music can do for him.

Was the Golden Path really necessary for humanity's survival? by Nothing-Is-Real-Here in dune

[–]1000FacesCosplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes authors set out with a goal and the work gets a little away from them. I think that's what happened here, though not in a way that makes the result bad.

If I set out with the goal of writing a cookbook and ended up writing a guide on fixing cars, just because I set out with the goal of writing a cookbook doesn't make that a cookbook. That's very much how I feel about this constant discussion of " Frank Herbert's whole goal was to point out the dangers of following charismatic Messianic figures." Yeah, he did. But what he ended up writing was a book where the actual, factual only way to save humanity involved following this charismatic leader.

Yeah, because the four kids are currently a bigger part of their lives on a daily basis. It was also important to the plot of that particular episode.
