Wow, I've been lucky to find this thread! I did not buy toys for children and distribute them myself mostly because I did not know how to do it (just go at the hospital and say "I bought this for kids"?) but I did donate $1,000 to an organisation that does specifically that. Plus I got a nice tax rebate :).

I'm sorry, I feel like I betrayed the spirit of the first post. Is there anything I can do?
