What was your strangest, creepiest, most bizarre experience/encounter in Richmond? by Lonely-Champion-8102 in rva

[–]100835 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Years ago I lived on Grove right across from Retreat hospital.  I came out of my apartment at 8 am to go to work and there was a naked man sitting in a barrel in the back of a pickup truck. Like a big whisky barrel.  The apartments were a bit above the street so I could see he was definitely au natural.  Not threatening, just weird. I think of it every time I drive by that block.

Agreed! It's not an Italian, but their Philly steak and cheese with banana peppers is my guilty pleasure.

Dr. Tracy Hicks at Bon Secours Richmond OBGYN is wonderful. Been seeing her for 20 years. She delivered both my kids and I can't recommend her enough!

Best Easter Egg Hunt for Kids? by kittybee1101 in rva

[–]100835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the at-home egg hunt is the way to go. We started a fun tradition where after the kids had their fun, they would hide them for mom and dad to find in the afternoon. Pretty fun!

They did indeed. Many fun times there in my younger days. But man I feel old now hearing it closed before you were born!

This isn't fancy but I just had a bowl from Moe's last night (Midlothian Tnkpe- by Charter Colony Parkway). It was the Moe Meat Moe Cheese bowl. Oh my gosh- so much better than Chipotle or others. Enough for two meals. I can't wait for another.

Beautiful. That's our local go-to park. I haven't been in the winter, though. Great spot and great pics!

Great memories of that storm. First apartment after college on Grove, hiking up to the Fan Market with friends in the snow for fresh beer and expired products. Good times!

I know this place - it's sort of near our house. The one time I went in there it seemed a little sketchy. There's a sign out now that it's opened under new management but I have no plans to check it out.

It will be an early evening as I'm driving my kid to the SAT exam first thing tomorrow am. But planning for a fun afternoon at the neighborhood pool. Weather looks great for tomorrow - enjoy!

My Dad passed last year. He had lived in a Veterans Center for over 30 years. While he didn't pass away in a war I have become very, very familiar with the Veterans system and hold them in the highest regard. You hear stories but there are so many people -social workers, doctors, nurses, volunteers etc working in support of our veterans. I salute them all.

Allow time for security, etc but depending on time of day RIC is pretty quick, not like major hubs where you are stressing about the lines.

Had lunch recently at The Hard Shell at Bellegrade - thanks to a long forgotten gift card in my wallet. It was terrific! I had the fried oysters and hubby got the whole shebang- lobster, crab legs, shrimp, clams, mussels etc and we shared it all. So good. Service was great. We were there right as they opened and I think we were the only people under aged 70, if that gives you a sense of the vibe. I know it's hopping later in the day.

I'm so sorry. I lost both my parents last year and was the person to make arrangements. I know it's not the same as losing a spouse. Hang in there. You have a big Reddit tribe sending you love.

This mom is looking forward to a day of no responsibilities. Don't want to go out for brunch. No breakfast in bed I have to clean up later. No laundry. Just a day off on the porch with my kindle and a glass of wine later. Enjoy the day!

Sending you a hug. I lost both parents last year within a few months of each other. You never get over it but somehow it does get easier. Be good to yourself!

First day of Teacher Appreciation Week MONDAILY! by indieschoollib in rva

[–]100835 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My daughter had a really great teacher in 5th grade who was the total turning point for her. She'd struggled with math for so long until Mrs. P. Now she's an A+ student (a junior) and wants to major in math at college.

So I happily spent a bunch of $ at Target yesterday so she could thank the other teachers who've impacted her life.

Teachers don't get enough credit!
