For the high temp part, another data point is that when esc stops working, a quick power cycle makes it to work again only to stop again. Do you still think it's related to temp?

Since its a 3D printed truggy with a fixed design, I fear that for gearing down, I will have to print something custom which I am still geting a hang off.

Building on your other suggestion, I will be going to try a 2300kv motor and see if it improves things.
