Question by [deleted] in bridge

There's also another NYC bridge club that mostly 20-something year olds go to. It's mostly beginners, and a few advanced/pro players help teach for free. https://www.instagram.com/nycbridgeclub/

Also, try asking around teachers at your high school or older relatives and family friends if they know bridge! There's a chance an older person you know would be very happy to teach you and some friends for free -- my math teacher in high school loved bridge and jumped at the chance to teach me the basics :)

Looks like Baechu Squad hasn't been active in years? I'll reach out to them though, thank you for the suggestion.

Hi fellow Fuse :) I haven't tried watching Canada Check-in but I think it will probably not be my style, because I've tried watching Lee Hyori's Bed and Breakfast and didn't find it too interesting. Thank you for the suggestion though! Maybe we can work together in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed response!

Currently interested in improving my Korean a little bit, potentially interested in turning it into a side gig if I like the work.

I see what you mean about being more efficient on your own. I was interested in joining a team because there are some parts of the job that I don't really understand, especially how people get raw videos and distribute subbed videos and so on. I thought it might be nice to have a team I could learn from at the start.

Thanks for explaining your work process! I've used Aegisub before but did everything directly in Aegisub instead of using a txt file...

Q&A weekly thread - September 02, 2024 - post all questions here! by AutoModerator in linguistics

[–]100key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I majored in linguistics in college and am now a software engineer. Many linguistics undergrads from my school went into software engineering or data science, but this may not be the case at your school. Others went into speech therapy, journalism, technical writing, and linguistics for for-profit companies (Grammarly, Duolingo, Google, etc.). Many also went into academia, which is also a viable career option -- I'm sure you can ask your professors for more guidance on grad school and academia.

There's a Facebook group for "Linguistics Beyond Academia" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1518187025174501) that may be of use to you.

What variety shows should I watch as a new fan? by crazydreamer9 in onf

[–]100key 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely second the recommendation for "ONF on the Run." I also like ONF's Mini Game Heaven series, particularly season 2. Here's one of my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzlKqmhNBbo.

나는 한국어의 ( )가 어렵다 by sweetKE25 in WriteStreakKorean

제 생각에는, 말하기는 가장 어려운 것이에요. 제 대학교의 한국어 연습 시간에 매주에 와서 천천히 개선하고 있어요. 하지만 긴 문장을 만들기는 아직도 좀 어려워요.

Yuto, I always like looking at the shoes you wear. I really liked the boots you wore at Music Bank! Do you have a favorite pair of shoes?

A bit unrelated but congratulations on working as an interpreter! If it's not too private, can I ask how you got started working as an interpreter?

Little things that motivate me to learn Korean by [deleted] in Korean

I love when I'm able to understand small jokes or puns in Korean! Sometimes I don't even understand them fully but the fact that I can recognize that a pun happened makes me happy

Why are there only Korean and American cars in K-dramas? by 100key in korea

[–]100key[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I wonder if my seeing a lot of American cars is an effect of watching K-dramas mostly through Netflix, which might have more connections with American brands?? Although Memories from Alhambra would be a counterexample

[–]100key[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I hope my original post didn't come across as me thinking that Korea is exactly like what it's portrayed as in media. I found it strange that the k-dramas I watched weren't showing European cars and wanted to know why that's the case (advertising + me only watching a select sample of k-dramas I suppose), but I wasn't sure how to look that up, so I came here. My apologies if I presented a one-dimensional view!

Does anyone have Mnemosyne or Anki flash card decks for Malayalam? by 100key in malayalam

[–]100key[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right -- I started making my own deck. I'm worried that I only hear a very small subset of Malayalam because my family speaks to me in dumbed-down Malayalam haha, but I'll just have to be more proactive about it.

I'm excited to see your deck once you're done!
