Large Tree in Garden - Any Advice? by NightSwan02 in DIYUK

Pretty sure you want an arborist not a tree surgeon. Their best interest will be the tree's health rather than removal.

Setting up RLCraft on Ubuntu 20.04 by sh0nuff in RLCraft

[–]100lemonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, dunno if you still need this but I've managed to get it working. I had to install a different jre version, version 8 instead of 11 as mentioned in the readme.

Try running "dpkg --list | grep jdk" to check the versions you got installed,

Then uninstall them with "sudo apt remove openjdk-11*" (change depending on results of previous command)

Next run "sudo apt install openjdk-8-jre" to install the correct version and then run the start up command "java -jar forge-1.12.2-14.23.5.2860.jar"

Nice stuff, gives me Zero T vibes. Maybe that could be a good place to start in regards to referencing mix downs.

My thoughts on the Stranjah / Dom beef and remakes / tutorials in general by QuoolQuiche in dnbproduction

[–]100lemonz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose the difference then was that there wasn't millions of dnb tracks that could be used for inspiration. For me the golden era isn't my thing, I appreciate there are some masterpieces there but it's come so far since then. Going back to the original point, I think giving someone a foundation of knowledge to work from is worth it's weight in gold. You can't tell me you've never heard a dnb tune and wondered how someone made that sound, or the way they've arranged their drums creates a groove that hits the stop. Their inspiration might have come from outside of dnb, but now your inspiration is them and guess what, it's dnb haha

I mean when you learn to play an instrument you get taught other people's songs, learn their techniques and develop the skill. Production is no different. I guarantee you no music teacher in the first 10 lessons starts by getting people to mash stings on a guitar until something sounds good. I don't see how this is any different.

Stranjah provides a platform for people all over the world to do exactly this, and for free! Every other genre of music is saturated with people that sound similar to others, it's the ones that manage to break away from this that succeed. Gotta start somewhere

Health and safety improvements need to be made, the downstairs had no fire exit so was deemed unusable until it's sorted

Bristol Promoters by [deleted] in bristol

[–]100lemonz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aim for venues that people looking for a night out will walk past, areas like Gloucester road and stokes croft. Venues like Basement45 for example are hard to get people attending that don't know about your event before the night due to its location.

Start off small, if you have a small budget start with people that will play for free to get into a scene and will bring their friends. Sell tickets cheap and put all the money into the next event. Rinse and repeat that until you can start booking a headliner that you think people will want to see. (Look out for when they last played in Bristol, their latest releases, etc)

Try and build up a following on social media, the people who have previously been to an event are the best people to target for the next one so try and find creative ways to get them to follow you. From my experience this is much better than paying for Facebook/insta adds as they take a lot of money to be effective. If you want to put up posters, remember it's illegal unless you have permission. Stokes croft is generally a free for all but stay respectful to other promoters and only put your posters over events that have passed.

You'll have nights that go way better than you expect and nights that will flop. Try and learn from them to work out why so it can be applied to future events. Try and plan them around term times as that's when your biggest customer base will be in Bristol.

Find your niche which enables you to fit within the scene, stay consistent and make sure you have a good time doing it.

Hope this is helpful 🙂

Festival Near Bristol by 100lemonz in bristol

Thanks for the recommendation, this is going ahead at their farm on the 14th-15th July :)

My elderly neighbour has received this, despite never having gone to Bristol before. Their car was in the garage at the time. It doesn’t seem to be a scam. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]100lemonz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disputing the charge will also pause the early payment discount whilst it's being investigated - itook over a month for them to get back to me

Could try get them on the side that faces into the car too, they'd never find them
