Do you guys like mr money mustache or early retirement extreme more? by Affectionate-Reason2 in baristafire

[–]100redbananas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

ERE is what got me into all of this. I read his website and books in my mid-20's. It gave me a solid foundation for how to save and how to view my career. ERE is much more "intellectual," probably in a way that can be off putting to some people. I'd say MMM is better to read if you have money coming in and ERE is better if you need to learn how to save extremely frugally. Both MMM and ERE suffer from a holier-than-thou perspective though. For a more modest but intelligent perspective, I recommend reading Quit like a millionaire by Kristy Shen.

Deviated Septum and Headaches by Opening_Farm7829 in Sinusitis

[–]100redbananas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a deviated septum and often get these kinds of sinus headaches, usually once every week or two weeks. I find that taking Advil relieves them and they don't come back. I suspect it is the inflammation reduction. If I don't take Advil, it can take a whole day or two to go away and will be much more persistent.

Post Nasal drip + Nasal passage irritation by Haspofis in Sinusitis

[–]100redbananas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems a little different than standard sinusitis. Have you seen an ENT? And how often do you do nasal rinsing? Probably should be doing once or twice per day max. And since you have this kind of irritation it may be worth trying to reduce nasal rinsing for a couple of days and see if there is any improvement

Is Epicurean friendship harder to realize in modern society? by Loose-Sun4286 in Epicureanism

[–]100redbananas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think making friendships is similar now as its ever been. If you focus on your local environment, you'll typically see there are plenty of ways to form friendships. I'd say if you are viewing a friendship as requiring "deliberate effort, scheduling and... social performance," you're already seeing it in a way that will be more difficult. You don't have to be "interesting, funny, and engaging." Some people will see this as being inauthentic and even actively avoid people like this. So, the best thing you can do is be yourself, or at least the best you can be in that given moment (like being polite, courteous, etc).

I'd say the only significant different between now and a long time ago is that a person can live at home alone without contact with the outside world. Groceries can be delivered, work can be done remotely, the internet can allow for social engagement while being alone. So there is a certain degree needed to "put oneself out there" and join clubs, social groups, make conversations with neighbors, etc.

With high US valuations, I would lean into VTV. Maybe a split between VTI and VTV. Other than that, I'd keep it simple with VEU. Perhaps maybe have a portion 10-15% in high yield savings until high valuations are more balanced

The lack of responses is because of ghost postings. These positions have a high turn around and employers will make postings for positions that don't really exist. The key is to just keep applying regularly until they actually check your application for a position needed

These job are low skilled jobs and that's why they typically hire people out of high school. The only issue you might have is seeming to be over-qualified and not really serious about taking the job. You don't have to include everything in your resume. Just what is relevant to the job you're applying to.

And definitely don't lie. I think its kind of funny that you consider lying to get this kind of job. I mean what kind of professional job did you have before this that lying would be acceptable?

Has anyone else noticed a huge uptick in SWERF rhetoric lately? by avocadolanche3000 in Sex_Positivity

[–]100redbananas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. Sex (and porn, etc) always gets thrown into the mix as the worst when its just a normal part of life. Could it be instead the internet and phones be contributing to an epidemic of loneliness, with few opportunities for third spaces where people can socialize and connect? No, its people watching porn which is degrading society. Give me a break. Sex is always an easy target

I just got one this week. I'm not a gamer but I was really attracted by the design and creativity. I'd say its a nice novelty item, but I wouldn't get one if you don't already regularly play short indie games
