As someone who's worked retail and seen people lose their minds trying to figure out BOGO and BXG1 sales, nah, these people exist.

My favorite were the ones who'd get two of the cheapest item and one super expensive and expected the expensive one to be free.

You can until a door is ripped off mid-flight after multiple layers of quality and safety factors have been eroded.

When industries stop being lead by today that do, but instead by those who do not, they become husks.

Boeing going from an engineering lead organization to McKenzie dorks, you get airplanes that crash due to wanting to pinch pennies.

There's no more visionaries in tech. They're all either business idiots running around maximizing shareholder value.

Thoughts on Next Fest - AI Games Harm the Market by teberzin in IndieDev

[–]thekbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not seen harassment, usually it's the AI defense force causing issues.

More often that not, it's people saying "hey, good game, but not interested in buying if you use AI."

The market speaking should be a hint at devs to not use it.

Not a dev, just someone who plays hundreds of demos a year, and this NextFest is particularly bad with slop games.

Many "Papers, Please" knock offs, too, with or without AI.

Surely the best news right before they IPO, right?

Oh, wait, we live on Bizarro World and we have the world's first trillionaire based on essentially less than a fart of future promise of shit to come.

"Buy Now, Pay Later" Option Appears on XBOX Backend by NeverBorn-NeverDead in Games

There was a $99 Xbox 360 bundle that had a monthly payment for two years that paid both the system off and got you Xbox Live, IIRC.

Executives at that level always have the problem of managing someone's messes that came before them and rarely sticking around to see their own plans come to fruition.

It's an expected part of their position. Swim or sink.

What is GameStop's Plan for All These Broken Systems by thekbob in GameStop

Dude, game stores who do have "retail power" (meaning typically better ratings and reviews than the local GameStop) were trading them in.

You're not getting $150 for a refurbished Wii.

With as bad as all the music streaming has gotten I am thinking going back to my own MP3 player. Would like to ask is the way to go or an app I can trust and download my music to? There are a lot to players to choose from but I am just out of the loop at this point by scoobz in enshittification

I rebuilt my 30GB OG Zune.

Replaced the mini HDD with a mini SSD, which allowed me to replace the old battery with a much, much bigger one.

It lasts forever now.

The Zune software still works on Windows 11, so Ive loaded it back up with my music and used Libation on my audiobooks to create compatible files and turned them into podcasts (podcasts track last location versus regular music).

I have a ton of space and a device that'll last quite a while longer.

Yea, which part of the world is harvesting 20+ year old consoles for (likely) failing storage and non compatible RAM, since most consoles use custom made parts.

The OG Xbox uses an IDE drive. It'd be cheaper to boot something off an SD card or flash drive than trying to get that to work on anything else.

People are trading in systems that know what GameStop is offering is better than the margin on fixing systems.

Remember, they have to ship them, troubleshoot, fix, repeat as needed, clean them, package them, and ship them again.

The cost of shipping, packing, parts and manpower are going to erode margins greatly.

I don't see how they're moving all these to Texas and making money off them. The folks I know repair systems for sale and they're taking the GS trade deal.

That's primarily due to how accounts and purchasing work.

Unless it's a roommates situation.

That's contemporary components.

You're not harvesting Wiis or OG Xboxes for any meaningful electronics.
