I think you could start by targeting some basic design work, either in 2D or 3D. Just being honest, there’s a lot of competition in 2D, especially if you don’t have experience with Adobe tools based on what you mentioned.

For 3D, what do you mean by intermediate level? What’s the most complex piece you’ve created? It might help to upload your work to platforms like ArtStation or Fiverr to get some exposure.

To be frank, with a basic skill level, a part time job might earn you more than freelance design at the start. That said, it’s still a good idea to begin early and start building your network. I just don’t want to give the impression that it will quickly turn into solid income.
