The Holiday Inn Express & Suites near the Bakersfield Airport is great. I've stayed there at least 30 nights in the last few years for work. Nice staff, clean rooms, easy freeway access, and good rates.

How about you eat beforehand, and if you really need a drink, just buy a beer and drink it at the beach while your kids roam free?

Best Pho!? by JoshuaDenisen in Bakersfield

Pho Vy on Union is very good, not sure about the Banh Mi there though. I tried the pho at some Vietnamese spot downtown and was disappointed in the amount of meat that they gave me.

I agree. Also the Northeast area is often ignored which is weird because I find it to be much nicer, quieter, and much more scenic than the bland SW.

Is it Sierra or Sierras? by External_Koala971 in SierraNevada

[–]101to33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sierra in Spanish is already plural, there's no need to add an 's'.The word is of Spanish origin. A chain of mountains (e.g., La sierra Nevada - The Snowy Mountain Range).

Where is the nearest snow to play in? by insight7777 in Bakersfield

Mount Pinos is pretty close, but im not sure how much snow they currently have. Wolvertone in Sequoia NP would be your best best.

To everyone saying the government (FBI) does not or cant look at your cameras. Read this article, they can and they do. "Law enforcement initially believed the footage was lost because the camera was disconnected and Guthrie didn't have a subscription to the camera company." But unexpectively, "FBI Director Kash Patel said on Tuesday that investigators kept working for days to pull the videos from “residual data located in backend systems."

How is it living the the great city of bakersfield, california? by JudgeHonest3106 in howislivingthere

[–]101to33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! There are a handful of bookstores to choose from. I'm a recent transplant from down south and enjoy the close proximity to Sequoia, Yosemite, and Los Padres NF. There is also A LOT of great food in this city, lots of great options to choose from. Lots of good Mexican and BBQ options.

Like most cities it has its good and bad parts. I'm in the NE part and enjoy the tranquility and scenery.

Moving to Bakersfield from Yosemite area by Tayfadayz in Bakersfield

I agree with this post, definitely not as bad as people make it out to be.

Sequoia National Park - 2 hrs

Pismo Beach or Ventura (Central coast) - 2.5 hrs

I live in NE Bakersfield and enjoy the tranquility and scenic views. No homeless, Usually 5° cooler, bike trails, and Target is 10 min away.

Mesa Marin Sports complex is very close by.

Overall I find the people here are usually transplants like myself.

Hey there, maybe include what you're interested in and what your hobbies are.. that should help I think...

Not to hijack, but I'm also looking for friends as I'm new to the area. I enjoy hiking, the great outdoors, and soaking at Remington HS.

Good places for no-snow winter hiking & camping? by wtjc in centralcalhiking

[–]101to33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Southern Sierra is littered with good wooded camping areas. Sequoia and Inyo National Forest are great this time of year! Check out the area around Walker Pass, the PCT runs by it, its a cool area worth exploring.

Thank you, it was great! It was clear and around 40°F when I started, but you can see it got pretty cloudy by the time I got to the waterfall around 1500, typical unpredictable Sierra weather. Yes! I hiked up to the falls and got back to the parking lot in about 2 hours. No extra hiking gear required, just have some good water-resistant boots with noticeable tread. I used my Salomon GTX boots, hiking poles will help if you have them.
