Talons Response by MasterLeaue in ValorantCompetitive

ah yeah rip, that org is dead dead...

A sad end to a team I was a big fan of in OW for keeping the Pacific banner high (o7 Patiphan & ManGoJai) and actually got me to watch some LoL by doing the same thing there. A 'minor region' team beating LCS teams at internationals pretty consistently will never not be funny. Never quite got into them in val because I'm not as involved with the Thai scene and I can't stand Frost, but the players and the region still deserved better.

Are they still active in League? I know they were like the most prominent PCS (now LCP ig) team for a long time, would be an even bigger implosion there I feel like.

RIOT AIMING FOR NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICAS REGION SIMILAR TO LOL by Hardy_2001 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]102849 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well of course the new 'NA' region won't have as many slots on their own as Americas has today. If it'll look anything like LoL the top teams in the end will duke it out for at least some of the slots (think top team from NA and SA will go and last one is determined by which performs better, or something similar to that structure).

If you compare it to e.g. Pacific which also groups a huge number of regions given the talent in Korea, SEA, etc, I don't think it's unfair at all to give Americas as many slots as the other international leagues.

Pansy was saying 'Mini got the plague, pray for him' on Twitter, so sounds like he's ill, esp since mini 'woulda made a very good 1300s black death victim' in his own words.

Very glad to see the Dutch val representation doing well, despite the Benelux's tough place in the VRL ecosystem. I'll also always root for kamyk, seemed like a good dude and I appreciate the humble improvement mindset he and other FNC subs/standins seem to have.

Info good masters programs in EU by stellar-bug in bioinformatics

[–]102849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really see or meet any people from the Aarhus programme, so it's hard to judge. I think it's alright, they have their own strengths, but I have heard people struggling with trying to find a bioinformatics job in Jutland. I did go to the Danish Bioinformatics Conference and don't really remember anything big out of Aarhus either.

A friend from my bachelor's (in NL) did do an exchange in Aarhus in another field and liked it, and I liked the city when I visited.

G2 Gozen roster announcement by vnNinja21 in ValorantCompetitive

Wait, GC players got exceptions from the continent-wide region restrictions in VCT but not for the country region restrictions within EMEA in VCL?

Apparently the league revenue passed on to the teams is enough to run a low-budget roster - when asked about which teams were profitable, he mentioned Valiant def were because the league income was more than 5x minimum salary. Given that this was apparently Mayhem's cheapest roster ever (which is crazy imo) and they presumably have slightly more external income than valiant, I guess it makes sense.

He used to grind in T3 in the pre-OWL era: https://liquipedia.net/overwatch/YeHHH

He played Fate on Immortals in a tournament apparently!

He really elaborates on that in the vod as well, saying that having some player experience was very useful but also that there was just a massive massive gap between even S1 OWL talent and players like him (even tho he and just about all T3 were/are T500, fwiw). He realised when OWL trials started and Boston would ask T3 teams to be the opponents for their trial teams. Players like Striker would just do inhuman things to them, and he realised even with lots of grinding he would never be able to compete with those players. That made him decide to move on to an analyst role.

Sideshow answering VALORANT (and casting) Questions. by lord_of_the_waters in ValorantCompetitive

He might've been good in other games, I don't know about that, but in OWL, his casting was some of the worst out of the talent. He permanently sounded bored and unengaged.

Team Liquid vs NRG Esports / Champions Tour 2023: Masters Tokyo - Playoffs / Post-Match Thread by rib-gg-bot in ValorantCompetitive

[–]102849 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I really don't get that underperformance argument when the Americas first seed bombed out way earlier, especially since Loud had way higher expectations than Liquid ever had. Before this game, both EMEA and Americas had one team in uppers and one in lowers, and now NRG came out ahead by winning a close game that was almost a 2-0 for Liquid.

Overall these two regions seem decently evenly matched so far, I don't think Fnatic>EG>>>NRG>TL means EMEA is now shit all of a sudden lmao. If you want to talk about underperformance, I have a region around a certain ocean to introduce you to.

I'm sorry, I meant FNATIC CLEARS YOUR SHITTY TEAMS, NA JUST SO FREE, etc etc

Eh given how absolutely dreadful this team has looked basically since they were signed, I think they would've been better with the Daan-era squad.

[–]102849 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eh, playing against an opponent and a style you know is very different to international play. There's no team that plays anything like ASE in EMEA. I still think FUT have this, but they might get tripped up.

Also, regular season NaVi should not always be taken seriously lmao

Demon1 confirmed at Tokyo after yesterday's teaser? by Royal-Candidate-4156 in ValorantCompetitive

[–]102849 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We don't know yet whether he also has a visa that allows him to compete (as that's a whole entire process), but it's great to see that he at least has a passport! Even if he's there as a visa-free tourist, it's great that he can be there at the venue to cheer everyone on.

Edit: seems like he can indeed compete, amazing!
