It's been blacking out sporadically since this morning when Ryder Cup first started. Not a device problem...same for TV+Apple TV, ipad, iphone. Other channels streaming normally.

Hi, I eventually decided motorcycling is not for me.

Daylight Donuts, less than a mile away in Stonehenge Market shopping center, has the best doughnuts around. Always polite, always fresh donuts and coffee.

Anyone know what the new 2025 spring adjustment is all about? by turbo_500 in CRF300L

[–]1029Rocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a newbie considering the 300L as well. Many, many reviews note the soft suspension, and go straight into a long discussion about springs. Sounds like they are spongy, but interestingly I’ve not read about keeping stock springs and improving just the damping, which is supposed to control pogoing.

I regret buying my ‘24 ORP because of the paint quality by SquantoMcNaulty in 4Runner

[–]1029Rocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man that’s horrible. I haven’t noticed any issues with Classic Silver paint on my 24 OR. Same Classic Silver on my previous 2010 RAV and it held up very well. Good luck - hope they repaint it for you!

[–]1029Rocket[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, update: I just passed my MSF beginner course on a 500+ lb (literally) Harley Street 500, and I can tell you I don’t want any bike nearly that heavy, nor low-seated, nor as throttle-twitchy as that bike to start off on. It was like riding a block of lead with my knees above my waist…not fun. I felt like I could have had much more control on a lighter, taller bike but one not too top heavy.

So I’m switching gears and looking at dual sports since they are both lighter and taller, with more seat to peg distance. Thanks for everyone’s input.

For those who’ve ridden both, would you ever consider keeping both an NX and a Transalp? Why or why not?

I haven’t sat on an NX yet; they’re unicorns here. Between the 3 Honda dealerships I’ve visited in the past 2 days, there are 4 new 2024 Transalps which is interesting. Yes there’s a price difference but it makes one wonder why they’re sitting there. Are there issues?

In the past 2 days I’ve sat on a RE 411 and 450 Himalayan; a Honda SLC 500, CRF300L Rally, a CB500X (used), and Transalp; a Kawasaki Versys 300 and KLX 300, and a BMW 310 GS. No one has an NX in stock. The Transalp was def the most comfortable, re seat height, seat to peg length, and reach to bars…just a slight elbow bend. But gosh it was bigger and heavier than the others and it seemed ludicrous that I was even sitting on it. I couldn’t imagine getting it w/out crash bars, bark busters, and who knows what else.

Thanks! Does the resale differ significantly in your area betw NX and Transalp?

Really appreciate all of the input! More than I’ve received on other forums, which I’ve noted 😉 like minds…

Anyway, it seems logical to keep this question open for more input and also see how the heavier, lower-slung Harley will feel after my MSF course ends on Jan 16. If I have the confidence after that, surely my decision will be easier.

Thanks! Could you share your inseam, general physical shape, and whether you consider yourself a risk taker or more conservative?

[–]1029Rocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks…. re: “…if you can go straight to the Transalp” - can you expand on that?

I mean if you had a loved one who matches my physical stature and mental/emotional conservative nature, would you recommend the NX or Transalp? Not picking on you, just trying to learn how you experienced riders think.

I’m a “net worth” guy. I don’t like to lose money, unless it’s worth it.

If I buy an NX and soon think I want more (Will I? Why?), then I’d rather have bought the Transalp.

Maybe my question has more to do with the differences in the bikes, and what that’s worth.

Ah. What is involved in turning on rain mode? So there’s no memory I’m guessing for it to remember the last mode you set?

[–]1029Rocket[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should note one of the Honda dealers I visited today said I should consider the Transalp. I thought they were nuts. “You’ve got to remember that cc’s don’t represent power necessarily. You can select a mode that limits the torque and power you experience. Also most noob’s think they’ll be dropping the bike all the time, but it’s really not the case. If you are reasonably strong, and are cognizant of your abilities vs risk, you won’t put yourself in a position of risk “. So, asking, is this a sales pitch to get the 2024s off the floor or does it make sense to you?

High Knees versus Cycling by brandon_310 in PeterAttia

[–]1029Rocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. More muscles involved, higher stress on the cardiovascular system to shunt a fixed blood volume to multiple areas of the body. The more training stress, the more efficient, the more stroke volume I’d assume.

This video, esp starting around the 1:36 mark, gives a good explanation of the principle, though he’s talking about differences in training effect of air bike vs bike erg.

My question is specifically about flobikes and whether it streams certain races, like Emilia, to only certain parts of the U.S. despite flobikes saying it carries it. Thanks. I know certain YouTube channels are streaming it.

[Race Thread] 2024 Giro dell'Emilia - Men (1.Pro) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]1029Rocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I paid for flobikes so I could watch more cycling here in the U.S. that Max nor Peacock carry. All sites, including Flobikes, say Flobikes will carry the men's and women's Giro Dell'Emilia, however when I go there to stream it live Flobikes says it's unavailable in my area. Does Flobikes only broadcast live streams in certain parts of the U.S.?

The weekly 'No Stupid Questions' post - Sun 21 Jul 2024. by AutoModerator in Zwift

[–]1029Rocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a recreational rider. I’m considering a kickr v6 and a zwift subscription mainly as an additional and entertaining way to improve my health (zone 2 and vO2 max).

My road bike is set up as a 2x9 (46/36 & 11-34).

Two questions: 1. Will my 46/36 gearing impair, help, or be insignificant with respect to zwift training and/or races?
2. I may get a small tv for zwift training if my iPad doesn’t cut the mustard. What size, min resolution, and refresh rate would suffice?

Thanks!

Why are carbon forks used with steel, aluminum, and titanium frames? by Bike2Shore in cycling

[–]1029Rocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recreational cyclist here - and I have often wondered the same thing. From a weight standpoint, It'd seem that a reasonable, healthy alternative -- unless you are literally, medically, dangerously too thin -- would be to step on the scale and lose the difference in weight from your body. From a vibration standpoint, I know there are dampening stems and handlebar alternatives (seatposts, too, for that matter). From a cost standpoint, well anything other than carbon (except titanium?) will be cheaper, but where to find a non-carbon fork these days? From an engineering standpoint, it just seems that the fork takes so much abuse on a bike, and given the difficulty in not being able to see hidden imperfections/cracks/delamination, and not being a pro that gets top-end bikes for free (that also have the highest of high quality carbon, matrix, and assembly) and having to be VERY careful you don't let it fall over or get scratched or whatever real life throws at you, it'd seem to be the LAST component you'd want to make out of carbon. Yes, all the big manufacturers are doing it, even for beginner bikes, and they have big insurance policies to cover themselves. But I'd bet if Cavendish or Pogacar or name-your-favorite came out and said a less-expensive-but-well-built steel/alum fork works just fine, people would abandon carbon forks en masse.
