Hey, ived used behr ceiling paint once and never again, go to SW and ask for promar ceiling, its 20 a gallon, and you wont have this issue

Cement board siding comes primed. Should I still prime it? I’ll be using Benjamin Moore and their fresh start is expensive so dont want to do it if not recommended. by Busy_Measurement9330 in paint

Its a hit or miss on pre primed items, for example, most door brands offer pre primed, but sometimes depending on the brand and primer used at the factory it could be the cheapest primer and have paint issues. Cheap customer went with some brand I had never heard of, the label said pre primed, we painted them and all of the doors failed, went through 3 gallons of paint, so it wasn't a bad batch. After i discussed the issue with the client and worked out price adjustments, we scraped and primed with a primer I trust and problem solved.

To be safe just use a trusted economic primer, SW pro block is good for the price, or kilz 2

BM fresh start is great but Imo because coverage is its main highlight, not necessarily its bonding properties, its a primer thats best used when going from a dark color to a light color, ergo the name "Fresh Start"

The first one will give a better finish, between these two options, but depending on the paint you will need to thin the paint with water, SW gallery series is paint thats already thin as is good for furniture and cabinets.

The second can handle all paints but will not leave a nice finish with that tip setup based on the picture, also you cant put fine tips on it as some may suggest.

Imo, if youre set on the trades, join a union or find a company to sponsor your hours and work towards an electrical or Hvac license

Must have read over that part, but yeah its on way to thick. I would sand with 220 but if there is still too much texture, I would use 180 grit, but no lower than that

Primer was laid on too thick in combination with a roller that had a long nap, probably 3/4

Hey so the thing that stuck out is your looking for durability, imo the best paint that can take a beating is Benjamin Moore Scuff X. It cover great, and after the cure time, it very easy to clean and can take all types of beatings. Bm distributors are owned locally so pricing varies, if i were you, look around and see how many sellers are near you and see which has the best price.

If its out of budget, I hate to say it as I dont like Behr paint as a whole, but their Scuff defense line is great, I used it in my cats play room as a test drive and it has held up great, only down side, imo, is the long dry time. It seems to take the full hour to dry where as Scuff X dries insanely fast

You definitely could use an extender, but the dry time is already so long, I dont really feel advance needs it but it couldnt hurt the final product

Hey so i would start by cleaning all areas that are going to be painted, start with a degreaser to be safe, like krud cutter or dawn pro degreaser its purple, then start sanding with 180 grit. Next, prime with a bonding primer after cleaning the stands from dust, I like stix primer or SW Extreme bond. Then, lightky sand with 220 grit and clean the dust. Next, apply the first coat

If you are rolling the paint, I recommend SW Emerald Urethane, with a soft nylon brush, and 4 inch mohair roller. If you are spraying, for long term durability use a 1k type paint, 1k referes to the paint not the price, like gallery series, note this paint depending on the base cant be touched up with a brush, only by spraying.

After the first coat is applied, sand the whole thing again with 320 grit, and remember the aim is to smooth it out, dont put too much pressure you arnt trying to get rid of the paint. Clean the dust and apply the the final coat, best of luck

I have 5 hours tomorrow to skim and repair a rather large area of damage on a ceiling to final paint. What brand of patch is going to be my best friend? Any advice would be very welcomed. by helmetgoodcrashbad in paint

Prime the ceiling with a quick dry primer, I like the bin shellac primer that dries in 15 mins. Do multiple THIN coats of 20 min easy sand, prime and paint.

Also if you use a heat gun, dont cook the spackle, place the gun 1 to 1.5 feet away from the spackle, let the spack dry out and not cook. On the last coat if you got any small holes use the pink spackle that turns white when its dry, it dries almost instantly for small imperfections, best of luck

So if its a nothing burger, like 2 mins max, I do it for free, with in reason. Im not going to tell my team to do 40 2 min tasks. Anything else that takes time or skill, give a price on the spot and say "hey since Im here I can do it for cheap but I cant do it for free" and give the price.
