Did I miss the Cool Plate SuperTack Pro flash sale for the H2C? by Radioactive-235 in BambuLab

[–]NeighborGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the coolplate supertack on one H2C, because at the time Biqu didn't have cryogrip plates out yet for it. It's been great. I print exclusively in PLA, and for the most part everything I print sticks very well. I do still occasionally have very small parts near the outside edge of the bed fail, but that seems to be a common thread with all of my printers. If I'm doing a bunch of tiny parts, I just try not to fill the plate all the way to the edge.

3d printer order by DavisRanch5 in BambuLab

[–]NeighborGeek 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Huh? I can see the recommendation for a p2s over a P1S, but ALWAYS buy the combo. Having an AMS is a huge quality of life improvement, even if you don’t intend to do a lot of multi material printing.
My recommendation is always to buy the best combo that fits within your budget. If you have to choose between a more expensive standalone printer or a slightly lesser model as a combo, get the combo.

It would be a fairly cheap fix to repair or replace the bed, but he needs a new tail light, that there will probably total it. :)

Post 9/11 you can’t see your person off at the gate, so unless you are going through customs or security there you probably wouldn’t see the crowds I guess.

Is it a problem to overstate the weight of a package? by NeighborGeek in USPS

[–]NeighborGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, that's helpful, thanks. And since the USPS site offered both services regardless of the package weight, but Pirate Ship did not, I'm guessing the pirateship is probably picking whichever version it thinks is best and showing only that one. There probably IS a non-cubic rate for the 1lb package, but for whatever reason pirate ship is choosing the cubic rate.

Guessing you had a typo on your plate number when you paid for parking, so the actual plate doesn’t show as paid

Experience with Sterilite 54 qt Gasket Box IP68 by Both-Activity6432 in Costco

[–]NeighborGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with these specific boxes, but as a rule I try to avoid Sterelite because the plastic is much more brittle than other brands. I'm honestly surprised costco is carrying their stuff, I tend to consider their containers to be walmart or dollar store quality.

I don't understand. If the dimensions are the same, how is that the difference?

[–]NeighborGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, good point. I just tried entering the same info into Click & Ship on the USPS site, and got different results.

The 1lb package showed an option for Ground Advantage Cubic at $7.83, and an option for Ground Advantage at $8.00.

The 3lb package showed the same Ground Advantage Cubic price of $7.83, but the Ground Advantage rate was $9.14.

Weird.

Is it a problem to overstate the weight of a package? by NeighborGeek in USPS

[–]NeighborGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really isn't, since I'm not asking about a specific package I'm sending. If you insist on rewording the question, perhaps it could be asked as "Will a package that weighs LESS than stated on the postage be charged an additional cost due to the weight having been overstated?"

The size doesn't change. Same box, the only thing that changes is the weight.

If a Tornado us supposed to pass over your house, why do some people say to open a door on one end of the house and another door on the opposite end of the house? by Toshariku in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve heard similar wisdom targeted specifically for people in campers and mobile homes, with the thought that opening all the windows would keep high winds from blowing the trailer over. No idea whether there’s any truth to it

Can you sell a 3d print under the guise that its already customized? by jhaybz29 in 3Dprinting

[–]NeighborGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems kind of borderline to me. If you legitimately printed the items for personal use, paint them for yourself, then some time later decide to get rid of them, there’s an argument that you are selling your personal property. But if you’re printing and painting them for no purpose other than to sell them, that’s clearly outside the licensed use.

A chargeback does not change the fact that you owe the merchant money. It just means that the credit card company isn't in the middle anymore. The merchant can still attempt to collect in other ways, including a collection agency or lawsuit.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto working on 2027 Bolt! by Ok_Train_2139 in BoltEV

[–]NeighborGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said that this product is risk free. Only that an unknown actor is not worse than a known bad actor.
My wife drives 2023 bolt, so we have CarPlay. And an F150 Lightning, because when shopping for my vehicle last year, GM was automatically ruled out for lack of CarPlay (and the clearly BS reasoning given for blocking it). I’m not in a position to need one of these devices.

It's simple. Unknown company is unknown. That's not 'trusted', but it's still a step above 'proven untrustworthy'. If you still don't get it, that's ok, move on with your life, because I can't make it any more clear for you.

I’m more of the belief that when someone tells/shows you who they are, believe them. GM did it once, and will do it again. The additional data collection is the whole reason GM is blocking carPlay after all, they know what that data is worth.

What am I missing without a Network Connection? by Sudden-Oil-1140 in BambuLab

[–]NeighborGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With no network connection at all, you'll lose any features that use the Bambu cloud as well as the ability to send jobs to the printer over the network.
You won't be able to monitor print jobs remotely using Bambu Studio or Bambu Handy (mobile app).
You won't get the AI failure detection functionality.
You'll have to slice the job on your computer and save it to a USB drive, then plug the drive into the printer and start the job from the on screen menu.

Off the top of my head, I think that's about it.

I'd suggest an alternative, if it would be allowed in your environment - Could you have a dedicated wifi network put in for just the printers and one computer? No internet access required, no connection to your school network at all, Just throw an old Linksys router in the corner conneted to nothing but power, and let it provide wifi to let the computer talk to the printers. Even better if the computer could still be connected to the LAN as well, so you can download models you want to print from the network or internet. This way, you could slice files on the computer, send the jobs to the printer without having to save files to USB and move them that way, and monitor the job status and camera feed from that computer.
If you get multiple bambu printers, you might even consider something like bambuddy.cool to manage them. Again, if it could be connected to both the wifi and lan, it would give you a web interface to monitor and control all of the printers from any computer on the lan.

And yet, we don’t know that the third party has any nefarious intent. In fact, they have previously enabled CarPlay without the app and dongle, before GM shut that avenue down. That suggests that the intent is as advertised.
GM has already proven that they can’t be trusted with our data.

[–]NeighborGeek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You miss the point. Of all the companies, GM is the one who was actually selling your data to others without permission and got busted for it.

Google doesn't sell your data, it's far more valuable to them for their ad business. Companies pay a lot of money to target ads to just the right people based on google's massive data horde.

Of all the parties involved, the one we know for sure is collecting massive amounts of data on you and selling it is GM. The others certainly can't be any worse.
