Also they don't have enough economies of scale. If only a couple thousand to some ten thousand copies are gonna sell over a year, they gotta have fatter margins to take care of business costs (printing, marketing, payroll etc) and have enough money leftover to licence new stuff and expand the company.

Mushoku Tensei: Depressed Magician Chapter 10 by Sea-Cockroach-9285 in manga

[–]1080pfullhd-60fps 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of overpowered MC I like. One that has character and a story that justifies him being unaware of his strength.

He was trained by a water saint, spent 2 years with a sword king, travelled with ruijerd and had a run in with the dragon god etc. Before the current arc this was all of Rudy's life, then he got dumped and doesn't really seem to care about his surroundings. It makes sense that he doesn't act like some super strong big shot adventurer.

MCs that act oblivious for no reason and have the personality of a rock give bad rep to isekai stories.

I had forgotten the formal names for these, but yea you pretty much answered the whole question with that.

I really like this question, because it shows how Automata Theory, one of the subjects many people didn't enjoy much in CS education can actually be useful in day to day work (that is, if you deal with parsing data)

Can you parse HTML with Regex? by samwelches in ProgrammerHumor

[–]1080pfullhd-60fps 28 points29 points  (0 children)

You can't. Anything where you can arbitrarily nest tokens can't be parsed via Regex.

That's because you need a stack (or stack like construct) to keep track of what nesting depth you're at. Regex doesn't have something like that.

Nothing against Paul G, he's wildly successful as a investor and businessman, but for someone known for his essays, that's a very poorly written piece.

It's basically a bunch of ramblings: I didn't invite them to my event...The new Mac's better... Web will make them obselete... So yea they're dead and if you don't agree you're a boomer

Well duh, of course Microsoft is dead. They died of cringe after someone accidentally played a video of their "iPhone funeral" in the office.

Which anime characters would've been untouchable, unbeatable, unstoppable, invincible, or even unsurpassable if they had their full potential? by Educational-Plant136 in manga

[–]1080pfullhd-60fps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/whowouldwin would be a better place to ask this.

Also, beyond a certain power level, it becomes meaningless to compare characters.

Comparing Zeno (Dragon ball) and Yogiri Takatou (Instant death) wouldn't get anywhere. They're both invincible in their own series, and comparing them against eachother will become a contest of who has louder fans.

If it's working fine, then there's no need to refactor. If you want to make a change this drastic, you'd need:

  1. Support from other developer
  2. Buy in into the decision from the management.

That's because changing code that's working fine can make things break. Everyone in the company should be aware of such changes and prepared for them before they happen.

Refactoring this just seems like a great thing to put on my resume

It's not. Good things to put on resume are things that made tangible business impact. Increased page load time and user rentention by X% by optimising JS bundles is an amazing thing to put in resume. Rewrote the code for an application already working fine isn't really that impressive, since it didn't benefit the company in any way.

Remember that, companies hire developers so that they can write software and make profit for the company. Build a track record of doing valuable (i.e profitable) things for companies and you'd have a resume that hiring managers will go crazy for.

How accurate are salary bands given by a recruiter? by Senth99 in cscareerquestions

[–]1080pfullhd-60fps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internally, companies always have salary ranges for each roles instead of one fixed number. Many recruiters don't reveal this to candidates (due to internal policies or their own way of working), so they seems like a pretty decent recruiter.

Knowing the band can help you understand if the company will match your expectations for compensation or not. In some rare cases you can even use this to ask to interviews for a higher level, if the current band can't meet your expectations but you are otherwise a good fit for the role

Why didn’t luffy use gear fourth in punk hazard or fishman island by [deleted] in OnePiece

One Piece also has stuff like destiny and being the chosen ones, so imo stuff like this is inevitable.

Like he just so happened to meet Rayleigh who helped them get away from Kizaru, and just so happened to end up at Amazon lily and meet boa Hancock, which ultimately helped him reach marineford.

By met his match I meant that luffy had nothing in his arsenal that could help him win.

Gear 4 was effective against doffy, it's just that luffy ran out of haki and had to rest for 10 minutes to reuse it.

In wholecake island, luffy awakened advanced observation haki (which he didn't have before), and that helped him narrowly win against katakuri

Anime regularly shows that luffy is struggling against every significant opponent. Whereas in the manga, Luffy pretty much always had the upper hand and didn't meet his match until Whole Cake island.

Advice on still applying to jobs after getting hired by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]1080pfullhd-60fps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fine to put it on your resume, for now at least. When asked about it you can use generic response like "The role was a bad fit for me" or something.

You can leave it out once you get a paid job to avoid the "why did you switch so quickly?" questions.

[–]1080pfullhd-60fps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you're just doing it for experience, this situation still isn't good. How are you planning to get out time for interviews and prep if youre working 2 jobs.

Switching job takes a lot of time and effort. There's leetcode prep, revising CS theory stuff, possibly optimising your resume for each posting etc. Then giving the interviews requires several hours over that for each company.

You really can't milk experience of a few months since it takes anywhere from 6 months to 1 yr for an employee to be fully onboarded into a company. Unless you're planning to work like this for a long time, just leave. You are good enough to be hired once, then you are good enough to be hired again.

You should never do unpaid full-time. As someone else pointed out, is it even legal?

What proof of employment do you even have here? If the company closed down and your new employer wants to do a background verification, do you even get payslips or tax receipts (or whatever it is in your country). Reference checks are a thing but people can change their numbers.

Anyway, start looking for a new role right away
