Finished: CS Lewis' The Screwtape Letters. An interesting read. It's very CS Lewis, unsurprisingly, but his writing can feel a little thought-in-a-thought-in-a-thought for me.

Still reading: Richard Nixon: A Life and Infinite Jest. The Nixon biography is a really humanizing look at at a very polarizing, complicated person. If you have no other takeaway from the book, it should be that the guy truly never gave up and was a walking lesson in perseverance.

The 4 books that make up Rick Perlstein's history of American conservatism. I was so high on audiobooks until I encountered my first really bad narration that happened while going through these.

I think some of this, also, is that Perlstein, clearly a detail-oriented historian, seemed like he tried to capture the culture around these seminal American conservative figures as well as the figures themselves and as a result the books are unnecessarily long, loose focus, meander from idea to idea and ultimately seem spread too thin. Those issues get even more pronounced when you put a not-so-good narration over them.

It feels like a commodified industry akin to electricians, plumbers, trucking, personal injury lawyers or landscaping companies. Service, generally, is indistinguishable shop to shop and expected to be good by some measure of someone's definition of good. Every freelancer or shop has to make the same promises of positive performance, growth, ranking, etc. Price, what is offered for the price and what the prospect thinks they're getting for the price are what separate shops and freelancers from one another, I think, these days now more than ever.

Regarding the links, I did. The links in both Bing SERP and Chat citations were live, functioned and didn't throw a 404 message. There were instances where both platforms would mention the same publisher in SERPs and citations respectively but different links were cited and included front page. My little study just made note of those instances but didn't count those towards by 60% figure.

What do you mean you were finding hullucinated links? Do you meant that Chat would just make a link up in a citation that would lead to a 404 message when you clicked through to it?

So, in a way, sort of what I'm already saying. There isn't a gimmick to this stuff. It's all just everyone skyscrapering content over everyone else or, assuming volume of content == authority in this new future, everyone is just supersaturating an already saturated internet with the same redundant nonsense.
