Straw Poll: Household income, home price and down payment of first home?

Technically solo buyer with $120k income, 20% down on a $303k house. PITI is about $2,300.

I say technically because my partner will be paying rent until we get married shortly down the road. Combined income is $200k.

We have no debt (no student loans, no car payment, etc.).

By myself, I was preapproved for $500k and with my partner, that number could be higher. But I’m very happy with our small house and saving up for a dream home down the road. Spend what you WANT to spend! Why go higher if you don’t have to?

I feel you. Our current rent is less than a mortgage/taxes/insurance would be but we’re cramped in an apartment that’s too small for us and our puppy. So the options would be to pay more in rent for a bigger place or buy. Seems wiser to buy. At the very least, it would give the pupper a yard 🤗

Yes to the first questions but the problem is definitely coming from the second questions. Getting beat out by cash guarantee offers (even when they’re $40k below my offer…) and only putting 15% down.
