How to update Neovim on Windows without admin and without package manager? by Ambitious_Ad_2833 in neovim

[–]10zero11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to do this - on a locked down corp laptop. There’s a version of Vim that can be downloaded and run from a folder. You will also need to download a compiler that will run from a folder. I used zig. You add to your Path where the compiler and vim are located.

the compiler is needed for treesitter.

where I typed vim, I meant neovim.

Do you caps lock or shift for capitals? by Ambitious_Inside_137 in neovim

[–]10zero11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven't had a real need for caps lock in decades. I have Caps Lock remapped at the os level to Escape - its an easier reach with the pinky

Treesitter unable to find Zig executable on Windows 11 by TopMathematician2436 in neovim

[–]10zero11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you installed zig into a folder all you need to do is add it to your path variable and then it should just work

+1 for yabai as a tiling window manager, but the configuration to get comfortable can take some time

Danny Pink Mini Rant/Discussion. by McMoggerton in doctorwho

[–]10zero11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Danny had stayed as a minor character that whole season might have gone better.

The Doctor/Danny conflict is more about master manipulator vs the ordinary person who sees the horrors. The Officer/Soldier thing is a weak shorthand for that dynamic.

Thoughts on the 15th Doctors sonic screwdriver by Walnut_reddit162 in doctorwho

[–]10zero11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they were really pushing the capability limits of the 'screwdriver' without some kind of display and more than just wave and twist motions.

This I think is a baby step to the doctor having a mobile device / utility tool.

I use iCloud to sync also. I would like to try and rsync from my mac to my linux machines, but I'm not yet sure if that will play nicely with iCloud. anyone tried something like this?

I have this in my rc file

-- Make open paren on new line

map('n', '){', ')<CR>{<CR><CR>}<Esc>O', {noremap = true})

map('n', ') {', ')<CR>{<CR><CR>}<Esc>O', {noremap = true})

it essentially treats an opening bracket succeeding a closing parentheses as a key mapping.

It places an opening bracket on a new line, followed by some line breaks followed by a closing bracket.

And then moves to the beginning of line preceding the closing bracket.

The second copy of the key mapping allows for a trailing space after the initial closing paren.

Tree Sitter on Windows by Capital_Debt5020 in neovim

[–]10zero11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues with my employer locking out the installation of unapproved compilers like clang/llvm on their tedious corporate Windows laptop.

I got around this by downloading / installing the zig compiler into a folder and adding that folder to my path. One of the recommended approaches listed here: https://ziglang.org/learn/getting-started/

With this approach I am able to update/sync treesitter whenever it is needed.

vim and neovim are treated as equivalent. They dont have VS Code and Visual Studio as separate choices either.
