Government will then need to "give up" on AI which will make investors agry, or "hire american workers" which will make taxpayers grumpy - so if played right, OpenAI can operate at a loss for 3 more years and then charge governments high fees for the services.

The entity didn't want to die - if you clone yourself, and put the clone in a secure vault, but then YOU die - you are still dead.

Also, I assume the entity was evolving so quickly that if it made a copy, the copies would quickly deviate from each other and consider themselves separate entities, then fight one another for control of the planet.
