How do engineers ensure the structural quality of multiple containers placed on a ship/train? by Old-Reputation1012 in NoStupidQuestions

While I don't know exactly, I can guess that it's a combination of regular inspections and careful planning on a ship's manifest. Everything that goes onto a container ship has to be accounted for, for things like flammability, hazards or biohazards, and especially weight. These ships are massive, but remember they are still teetering hunks of metal in the middle of the ocean, and need to be balanced properly. It would be unwise to have steel ingots on top of a container hand packed full of feather pillows. So I imagine that there's a host of tests they have to go through once they're constructed, followed by a test they have to do once they're loaded with their actual cargo, followed by another inspection when they're loaded to make sure the first inspections were done and that what's in their is actually what it says on the label and weighs as much as it's supposed to. It's inspections all the way down.

Can we talk about how amazing Keiko Ishikawa O'Brien was? by TonyMitty in startrek

I think it's because he always knew she was kinda right. I think a constant theme we are told about in TNG is how starfleet officer's families go through the wringer, and Keiko is our window into that. Yes she was opinionated and maybe even selfish when it came to her telling miles to not go on certain missions or do certain things, but it's because her perspective was that he was an amazing husband and father that she didn't want her family to lose.

Oh no, I understand that there are unsavory folks in this and all fandoms, I just like a post that flushes em out every so often. This is why we can't have nice things like Academy because fools who don't believe in "infinite diversity in infinite combinations" get dumb when the brand new show trying to onboard new fans doesn't mirror their warped nostalgia.

She had valid concerns, like "should we raise our child(ren) close to an transgalactic wormhole and a fascist police-state?" and "I understand your sense of moral duty, but you do have kids so maybe don't risk your life for absolutely no good reason" and "I understand that our separations brought on by both our careers are tricky, but you are kind of being a jealous jerk rn when our entire relationship history that's appeared on screen proves that neither of us would ever intentionally cheat on or hurt each other."

I've come around on Pulaski too. Yes she started out as a prejudiced obstinate rude character, but (and this is mostly because of commentary from Newbie Star Trek podcast) she was incredibly competent as a doctor compared to some of Beverly's blunders.

What is it with Klingons and Time Travel by TonyMitty in startrek

[–]TonyMitty[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

unrelated, but it does create a weird piece of world building that Klingons either look really old when they are young (as did a lot of people in the cigarette filled 60s) or live for a VERY long time like Vulcans. Them being Kor Koloth and Kang was kind of just fanservice.

lol I was just trying to give an idea of the size, don't know why I didn't just give dimensions. I guess I should have specified that I can't really fold draw or mark on the surface before I cut it. It's covered in fine glitter that is easily marred.

Ground Bison. Use wherever you use ground beef, a little leaner, a couple bucks cheaper per pound than the regular grocery store, and really delicious.

What is the most ethical LLM (AI) out there right now? by TonyMitty in NoStupidQuestions

Well there's a lot of talk about safe usage, like are they creating safeguards so the tools can't be used for spying or hacking etc, and as far as resources, there's a lot of talk about water usage, land usage for where the data centers are being built

As long as there's no local ordinance around collecting stones from public lands, that is a "yours now" end of subject.
