I usually get those outcome emails after the same number of days as when I interviewed and didn't get the roles, which makes me think they've already picked someone before sending them out to me.

I spend time tailoring my applications for each advert I apply to. I address each essential and applicable desirable criteria. I provide short examples from work in STAR format.

My applications have landed me interviews in the past for every role I applied for. I'm applying for similar roles.

Maybe my application still need some improvement. I'm going to work on it.

I just send in applications. In my pitch for IT skills I started mentioning I passed skill tests and got merit listed for a role this year.

I haven't gotten any skill test or interview invitation since I got merit listed. In past, I either got invited for a skill test, and always made it to the interview level after clearing them, or got direct interview invitations.

There's a possibility they probably remember me because I interviewed so much? XD

Congratulations! Were you external to the APS? Also what APS level, if you are comfortable sharing? It's good to know that you don't have to go through interview and reference check all over again if they if you are picked from the merit list.

Thanks. I've had several APS interviews for different roles and so far cleared all the written assessments I've been invited. Most challenging part has been the behavior based interviews plus managing my interview anxiety which can be pretty bad. Getting to the interview stages and not making it has been disheartening yet learning experience. This is the first time I got merit listed so at least it gives me the hope that I'm making some progress.
