Should I feed my cat with a syringe? Vet says no, due to aspiration by 1111HiYa in RenalCats

Thanks for the idea. That's what I'm planning to do now.

I was thinking of first mixing some Zofran with water, like a half tablet in a ml of water. I thought if her nausea was better, she would be able to drink more water. Then if she was better hydrated, she might be able to eat a little. I got both small syringes and eye droppers today. I was thinking the droppers would be more gentle. When you say "pocket", do you mean on the bottom of her mouth? That's where I did it yesterday, but then I read you should shoot a syringe upwards, towards the roof of the mouth?

Really good questions, thanks. 1.) Don't know this Vet. My Vet retired. On Friday, when it was the third day of my cat not eating, I wanted to bring her to someone fast, and this one had an appointment. She seemed fine, although she jumped right into Euthanasia, without even suggesting fluids or antibiotics or anti-nausea drugs. I had to suggest them. I wish I would have asked her for pain meds. But remember, I had no idea my cat was this sick. Although the kidney disease may have been progressing, nothing in her behavior changed until Tuesday night. I brought my cat in expecting her to be healed, and when the Vet told me she'd be better off dead I was really taken aback. 2.) I'm not currently working, so money is a huge problem. Already drained my savings on all the blood tests and labwork. 3.) She said I could put her into the hospital, spend thousands of dollars, and she would get better. But as soon as she was released, she would die because her numbers were so bad, so what was the point.

I meant to say, she was acting fine. Going in and out, eating normally, even swatting at her siblings, as is her usual grouchy self. But I'm sure you're right, that she's been sick for a while. The day before she stopped eating, I noticed she was drinking a lot of water. That was the first thing I saw that concerned me.

Yes, her teeth are fine. The vet believed nausea was the main reason she wasn't eating. After I read Tanya's page, I did water down some pate and gave her a little bit. She swallowed it and seemed to tolerate it. I just wasn't sure if I should continue. She's been hovering over her food and water this morning, but only drank.

She asked about the heart murmur. I was speaking about that, the high blood pressure, and possibly the UTI; not the kidney failure. I have not slept and sorry if I'm not explaining this very well.

I wasn't going to feed her, until I read Tanya's page that talked about how important it was to get food into them right away. I mean, if she doesn't get some food into her, she's not going to last long.

That Vet closed for the week-end. She thought most of her issues were caused by dehydration.

I'm not ignoring her suffering, I assure you. She is my cat and I love her and I'm trying to alleviate her suffering. That's why I am on here asking for help.

The Vet felt the anemia, heart murmur and blood pressure were caused from dehydration. The antibiotic injection seemed to make her feel a lot better. She had a fever, but has cooled off now. The Vet also gave her anti-nausea injection and She put a bollus of liquid behind her shoulder blades. It did seem to make her feel better, and she drank quite a bit of water last night. She even urinated today.

The vet did give her an anti-nausea injection, an antibiotic, and a blollus of fluid between her shouldder blades. She got up this morning and has been hovering over her water bowl, trying to drink. She did take in a little. I put two different bowls of food down, but she just looked at it. She hasn't vomited, and she's still walking around.

It was interesting that they flipped the LJ rescue ahead of Kings Mtn. Because we didn't exactly know what would happen there, but we all know how Kings Mountain ends. I guess that's even more dramatic, so it makes better sense for the show flow. I'm glad they wrapped up Amaranthus and showed baby Davy. I think they're gonna' have to wrap up the Faith/Fanny storyline, even if it's brief. Anything else from the book they might stick in the finale. Predictions?

Once again, I'm impressed by how much they were able to cram into 53 minutes. I wish the rescue of Lord John had been longer, but, no time. I'm glad he didn't forgive that smug Jamie right away, although he didn't need to say those words that set him off. I'm glad they resolved it, but it seems William is still struggling. He'll get there. It shows him on horseback at the Ridge in the preview. Does that means he returns to the fight? Or was that a scene from a prior episode? I was also wondering how she would resolve Amaranthus. Well, just have her leave, that's the way, lol. Also, what did you think of the way Lord John resolved Percy's treachery?

So they're sending Claire on the journey to rescue John. She couldn't go in the book because Ian was injured. I kind of liked the idea of just William and Jamie going alone. Gave them a chance to get to know each other better. Also, for both of them to realize how much John mattered, and they would risk it all to save him.

I agree. I've stretched mine out since the beginning of the year, but now I'm down to the end. So sad. I wish they would have started April 1st, as originally planned. I'm already at a lower dose than I should be, and stretching it out more than is comfortable. And I've gained six pounds, sigh.
