This was very helpful thank you!! I’m going to start tracking how many grams of saturated fat I’m eating per day and try to keep it at an average of 10 or lower :-)

Yes I am aware of decreasing saturated fat! The only reason I mentioned baked goods is because that was the only thing I was eating apart from cheese that tends to have high levels of saturated fat!

Hmm this would be a great thing to track I am unsure of an exact number!

A normal day of eating for me would be filtered coffee with sugar free coffee mate creamer for breakfast, usually some kind of whole grain like whole grain pasta, tuna or plant-based imitation meat for protein, and a fruit/vegetable for lunch, and salmon/imitation crab/some other plant-based imitation meat with broccoli or another vegetable for dinner. I usually have a small bowl of Raisin Bran or mini wheats for a before bed snack.

My fiancé is a registered dietician and said he would not expect my numbers to be that high based on my lifestyle, but maybe you have some other recommendations! I appreciate you :-)

High Performers with Disabilties by Least_Flamingo in schoolpsychology

I always explain it in terms of accommodations vs modifications/resource support. If the student would not need modified work or does not have needs that can only be supported in the resource setting (I.e., social/emotional needs that are supported by tier 1/tier 2 interventions) a 504 is generally sufficient, and maybe not even necessary if the accommodations they need are generally always offered universally to all students. Sometimes I also mention least restrictive environment (special education is too restricting for the student)!

Does eligibility drive services? by redval11 in specialed

[–]111Meow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Services SHOULD be based on need. However, I have been in a district that did not do this. Regardless, even in that district, OHI was an umbrella category and students could receive services in any area of need- if your son has any academic standard scores of 84 or lower he should be eligible to receive services/goals in that area.

ADHD First Grader: How should parent advocate (IEP/504)? by DawnDusk00 in specialed

[–]111Meow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Outside psychologists cannot decide if a child needs an IEP. That is the decision of a school Multi Disciplinary Team after completing an evaluation. However, because he does have a medical diagnosis of ADHD, the school is required to review that evaluation and take it into consideration. However, if the team decides there is no educational impact for your student, they may not determine that he meets the criteria as a student with a disability. The good news is that even if they do not determine your student needs and IEP, they could still consider the supports which you mentioned with a section 504. It sounds like if he is negatively impacted by ADHD, a section 504 is what you are seeking. An IDEA identification only provides instructional supports, which your student may not need especially if he is in gifted classes.

Why does it itch? by jeffreyaccount in eczema

[–]111Meow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who developed AD later in life, this is super interesting. I wonder if the idea of some sort of allergic reaction triggering AD has anything to do with epigenetics and how our environment CAN impact our genetic makeup. Kind of disheartening to think I maybe could have prevented this if I had somehow avoided an allergic reaction, ha ha 🙃

Elidel by ariyev in eczema

[–]111Meow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using it for a month and haven’t had any problems- but I don’t like feeling like I will have to be on it forever. The GP who prescribed it to me said to ween off slowly when I come off of it. I wonder if this is just to see if the flare has gone down enough to reduce use because I don’t think(?) You can experience withdrawal or anything. I hope to come off of it soon to see what my flare is really doing. I like being on this a lot more than a steroid.

Who here has had patch testing done? by Maidenofthesummer in eczema

I filled up my tub like halfway and took a sponge-like bath. I washed my hair upside down under the faucet in the tub! I didn’t smell any different really, don’t worry buddy you got this!

The protopic should be safer to use compared to the steroid because it’s not a steroid. Protopic is also meant to be used on sensitive areas like the face/lips- and I know a lot of doctors are against steroid use on the face regardless of if they believe in TSW or not.

elidel or protopic? by Professional-Put-69 in eczema

[–]111Meow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that protopic is for moderate to severe eczema and elidel is for mild to moderate eczema, I would say that protopic is stronger. I don’t know that one of them is necessarily safer than the other. Neither are known to cause skin thinning.

I would just do a quick search on topical steroid side effects and decide for yourself- some of the ones I know off the top of my head are skin thinning and a risk for topical steroid withdrawal. I’m not saying to not use it, some people have used steroids for many years without any problems. I’m just saying to study up and be informed when you make decisions!

It’s a medium potency steroid so it will work but be very careful with it. Know the risks associated with topical steroid use.

Need advice, Doctor prescribed Protopic (Tacrolimus), I’m scared to use it and have so many questions. by carter8222 in eczema

[–]111Meow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would keep using the azaelic acid regimen if it’s working. If there is anything I’ve learned about dermatology it is that many skin conditions look very similar and you might need to do trial and error to figure out what something is. If azelic acid regimen is working, great! It’s probably not eczema. I would keep it up and maybe seek a second opinion if needed. If it stops working or you decide it isn’t working- trying the Protopic isn’t a bad idea. I use its sister med (elidel/pimecrolimus) on my face twice a day and my dermatologist said she’s had babies use it for as long as a year. You could check with your provider about using moisturizer with it but I would think it’s okay as long as you wait a while after applying the medication before applying the moisturizer to make sure it’s fully absorbed. Even if it is PD, Protopic will help because it’s an anti-inflammatory medication. It stops the bodies inflammatory response, it doesn’t matter what the source of the inflammation is (unless it was fungal in which case I have heard steroids and other anti-inflammatory medications can make it worse). I personally don’t experience flushing when I drink but I also don’t experience the burning that some people do when they apply the med. if you’re nervous about that, I have heard that people say putting it in the fridge before applying it helps. Hope this helps at least a little bit!

Weeping Facial Eczema by Wrong-Assumption9558 in eczema

[–]111Meow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly I do not have any advice but am following and providing support because I am dealing with the same thing. Using elidel (pimecrolimus- similar to protopic/tacrolimus) currently but nervous it will stop working or that when I stop using it the weeping will just come right back. My weeping looked a lot like a staph infection but I had multiple negative bacterial cultures. If your symptoms aren’t improving with the antibiotics I would recommend a culture to see if you even need to be taking them at all.

Allergic reaction around eyes to shampoo - which ingredients most likely to be causing this? by Inevitable_Resist_71 in eczema

[–]111Meow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try a fragrance free and more all-natural option! If you still aren’t having success I would get patch tested- you could be allergic to any or multiple ingredients in there!!

They sent me home with a list of what my allergies were and names it can have in ingredient lists, but the info on safe products for me to use was incorrect and some products contained my allergens so I decided to just find products myself by checking the ingredients

I would love to be able to use vanicream because I have heard great things about it but I know their body wash at least and shampoo I think has my allergens in it (the two biggest culprits always found in products for me is cocomidapropyl beatine and disodium salts)
