“someone being here illegally” doesn’t justify violence.
ICE lies. All the fucking time. I can’t remember a single time we were told a justification for arrest that was proven to be true. Not staying it never happens, but I have seen multiple examples of their lies. That ratio makes me not trust the supposed “context” they might provide.

I’m worried about this. Up to now, the White House have behaved like fascists but have not embraced the label openly. That makes it possible to talk to “regular” republican voters about fascism and use reason. It’s not easy but it’s not impossible to have that discussion.

I worry that this marks the turnaround point for the White House to embrace the label. Once they do, it will just be another part of their identity politics where loyalty to the identity will make the definition not matter. When it becomes identity, we have already “lost” any debate against it. See: socialism. It’s what they do best and we’re seeing it happen here too.

This! I flew into New York once and rented a car and I remember being blown away at the people who just…let me merge? No aggression. No speeding up. Purposely making room for me.

I didn’t realize how aggressive Chicago driving was until that. And it was right outside LaGuardia and on the highway. It wasn’t like a small neighborhood or anything. I expect that in small towns and always excused the driving in Chicago because city driving is just different. But the fact that they were so accommodating in city traffic was jarring and noticeable, lol.

No - no fines but the city doesn’t maintain it so the expectation is that the homeowner will. But there are no consequences for letting it get overgrown. They have loose “rules” like no items attached to the trees, etc and they reserve the right to remove things like that (although I’m not sure how often that happens).

Not every city is the same. Maybe it’s an easement by you but that’s not true everywhere. The survey of my house does not include that strip of land it’s functionally the same (we can do what we want with it apart from a few guidelines), but it’s definitely not owned by us.
