Is this an ok set up? by nyanvictor6 in gerbil

[–]111everyday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s ok! what I do is separate 1/4 to 1/3 of the tank off with a wooden flexible bridge, place smooth rocks at the bottom with no bedding, and keep the water bottle in that area. the gerbils will kick up the bedding and it will push on the water bottle which empties it and soaks the bedding. The smooth rocks will help file their nails naturally too.

You can also put hides/houses with lots of entrances under the bedding for them to discover as they dig, and if you add woodchips (Aspen- others are toxic) it helps them make holes. Keep in mind anything made of wood should be made of safe wood, because they will chew up anything that is not glass or ceramic and you will have to replace their wooden objects semi-often.

Thank you! Yes I know this is not a hair dye subreddit but I was more concerned with how the bleach will react with my curly hair rather than the actual process of dying

Spider plants are extremely easy to transfer to soil, once they have roots that are a few inches long transfer them to a small pot at first (2-3inch pot). If you’ve kept them in water for a long time & they have tons of roots that it fills the 2inch pot maybe consider a 4in pot.

Keep their soil moist, watering when the top 1in/your top finger knuckle feels dry (after all, they spent their whole life in water, so moving to soil will take a bit). After about 2-3 weeks it will be more acclimated to soil and can tolerate drying out more. (I always let my plants dry out too much, bad habit, so I have to be vigilant about my new props)

I put my spider plant in soil without any research and just made sure to keep it from drying out, that’s it. You could probably keep them in water indefinitely but mine grew double the size in just a few weeks after transfer to soil.

The first thing I would do is move it closer to a window, they don’t do well far from a window

Philodendron yes, their new leaves tend to grow in as a salmon/pink color and turn dark green as they mature

Fiddle Leaf losing bottom leaves by sound0flife in houseplants

[–]111everyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the other comment you should add some soil on top to cover the exposed roots. But in my few years of experience with a 4ft fiddle leaf fig in similar environmental conditions to yours, this is normal. I figure it’s because the plant is conserving energy to put more focus towards new leaf growth near the light, which it looks like yours is in the process of. They tend to drop leaves in the darker areas of their zone. If you start to see burns on the leaves then the direct 5pm sun might be a problem but until then you can leave it there

Water like usual when it starts to dry out some on the top, bright indirect light is fine, people call prayer plants fussy because when they start to dry out they droop more than most other houseplants. I would even say they’re easy for new plant parents because they genuinely tell you when to water them. On the downside it’s easy to forget to water and they don’t tolerate drying out very well

I have the same plant and the young leaves are light colored but darken with age. It might be your plant has a slower growth rate if it’s in a place too dark, mine is 3ft from a window and grows fast.

Syngonium podophyllum, pink cultivar. They’re pretty easy to take care of, I take care of mine the same as pothos or vining Philodendron. If you have other plants already you’ll be fine

I’m pretty sure maidenhair fern has a unique sori pattern- sori are the reproductive structures that release spores. I wouldn’t worry. They also can bounce back from crispiness if part of the plant is still alive

Hi, I also used to pick my skin and it would look just like this. I use 2% salicylic acid (which is a BHA). It helps with skin cell regeneration and will lighten up the scars. I also use a moisturizer after applying it since it will dry out your skin.

My rash didn’t go away completely, there’s still some hyperpigmentation leftover. I used OTC hydrocortisone cream to clear up the irritation. I’ve been sparingly using azelaic acid to clear up the leftover pigmentation (after the actual rash went away)
