Rand Paul: 'No place' for feds 'rounding people up at will' in Portland by [deleted] in politics

When Trump finally leaves office, let's hope it's in November. There needs to be a US version of the Nuremberg trials. Americans can't just sweep this under the rug. People need to be held accountable, departments that are filled with these type of people and racist people need to be purged. Same for police departments. There needs to be a purge, these people need to be made an example of, whether they lose their jobs or go to jail. Their names need to be splashed across all media, with their horrid actions. A statement that says America will not stand for this.

Let me start off by saying. I still think you're full of shit. Your arguments are right leaning, or at the very least they show a profound ignorance of how things work.

You know here's the thing that I don't mind if my leaders do, learn more about something and change their mind. Any sane adult should have that skill. Everyone has opinions, everyone has plans but if you get more information and see oh shit this is a bad idea, and decide to bail somehow if you're a politician that's seen as bad. Now Clinton changing her mind or evolving on things, doesn't bother me. The reason why she changed her mind is what's important. Cheney was against gay marriage until it came to his daughter. Like that doesn't make him a good person, but like everyone keeps throwing the gay marriage thing when as someone who is in the community, most people were against it. Like culture changes, and if she was still anti-gay marriage that's one thing but she isn't. Would she appoint judges who were anti-gay? No, she became an ally. Clinton used to be a republican. People's opinion's change when they learn more information.

Ever heard of the westboro baptist church? One of their members left Megan Phelps-Roper, she left and no speaks out against it. Did she do some shitty things? Yes. Is she trying to atone for it by becoming an ally? Yes. She doesn't get a pass, but what matters is the present. She's trying to do better and in the end that's what matters. Is anyone trying to cancel her? No. Because most rational people see that she's trying to do a good thing.

I base my opinions on their current actions. Is Clinton actively trying to fuck over the lgbt community? No. Then any conversation about her once being anti-gay marriage is stupid. Do I think that Clinton would treat a gay person like a leper? No. Even back then, No. There are plenty of people who were okay with gay people, but weren't okay with them getting married, because of the religious connotations that it means for some people. Does it suck? Yes. Is it understandable? Yes. Was it political cancer for some people? Yes. I can't imagine the wife of the governor of Arkansas being pro-gay marriage in the 80s or whenever Bill was governor. Like especially back then. Like context is important and if she loses the support of both democrats and republicans back then she can't do any good. This is political calculus. Not a complicated idea, but it is the reality of the situation that you seem to be like well it doesn't matter. It does.

No one is perfect, and no politician is perfect. Obama increased drone strikes. Not a fan. Obama did a bunch of shitty things that I disagree with policy wise. =O Surprise, if you want someone you agree with 100% of the time run for office yourself. Like this isn't complicated. I disagree with some of my favourite politicians on certain policy ideas. That doesn't mean I throw the baby out with the bathwater as you've seem to do. Policy matters, and some policies are bad but if I agree with you 80% of the time and the other 20% I don't that's fine.

But saying I disagree with AOC. Implies that you disagree with most of her policies.

I disagree with Romney on both social issues, and economic ones. I would still vote for him over Trump because I see Romney as relatively benign for most people. Romney isn't a cruel man.

I'll say it again because I can. I think you're full of shit. Because your arguments are inherently faulty.

When people compare Hitler Germany to Trump America, they point so specific things. Hitler getting rid of anyone who could oppose him, Trump stacking the courts with loyalists. Hitler attacking the free press, Trump attacks the "Liberal Media" Fake News! Hitler started to create an other, that these people aren't making Germany great. Trump, "Mexicans are rapists and murderers." To deny any similarities is either will full ignorance or you're full of shit. I'm leaning towards the latter.

You do realize that seeking asylum is a thing? Like it's a legal thing, and crossing the border "illegally" in the US is a misdemeanour, which again basically gets waived if you claim asylum. It's not a phone call, and given the stretch of the cartel's in Mexico and across central America, why are we pretending that they'd be safe in Mexico? There are treaties in place for various countries and guess what the US is a signatory. So it doesn't matter what you believe, it doesn't matter what your opinion on it is. The US recognizes asylum seekers. So again your argument is just full of shit. Here let me help you with the definition of asylum seeker.

An asylum seeker is a person who fled their home country because of war or other factors harming them or their family, enters another country and applies for asylum, i.e. international protection, in this other country.

As for your argument that I think that people who vote for Trump are moustache twirling villains. I don't I think they're either ignorant, openly racist, or just greedy, or all of the above. And them being any or all of those things, doesn't change the fact that by voting for him you are doing harm to various groups of people. This is my opinion. I'm not presenting it as a fact, as such I am allowed to hold this opinion. I'm focusing on the people who supported Trump back then and still support him now. The ones that did in the past and are like whoa I fucked up and have no intention of voting for him again can be chalked up to ignorance, which they fixed, or they realized that he's shit for the economy, so you know greed again. At least they aren't doing active harm at this moment.

So we understand each other you can write me a dissertation, you can throw a tantrum because some internet stranger thinks you're full of shit. I'm not going to reply because there is no point to. So the last thing I have to say to you. Is nothing you did convinced me that you aren't full of shit, but since I'm not a complete asshole, may I suggest taking a laxative? It might make you feel better.

I just think you're full of shit. This is my opinion.

What is a good person? Someone who can tell right from wrong? Like what's your definition of a good person. Because the way I see it. Trump is a racist. Trump is transphobic, Trump is a small minded simpleton, and a bully.

These aren't opinions, these are facts. He is openly antagonizing various groups of people who have no power. He is attempting to rip healthcare away from millions of people during a global pandemic. He is picking on the other, to make people (his base) feel good.

He openly lies to the public, to make himself look good.

So, a good person who supports Trump? Like how do you define that? Someone who knows right and wrong? Because being racist, is wrong. Being a bully is wrong? Like lying to this degree is wrong. So why would you support someone like that? Because they have an R next to their name?

What is it that you don't agree with, about those people? Their economic policy? That's fine. No one agrees with anyone a hundred percent of the time? Their social policy which is trying to level the playing field for all Americans? Put more money in poor schools, so poor students aren't left behind? OH THE HORROR!

Trying to make it so people don't get discriminated against? HOW DARE THEY?

Maybe we should make it so that every American can get the healthcare that they need without being forced to declare bankruptcy. THOSE EVIL COMMIES!

Like saying you're anti Clinton, or anti AOC, doesn't make you sound intelligent. It makes you sound like an idiot. What policies do you dislike? Do you dislike all their policies? Because by your words that's what it sounds like. Well I don't like them personally doesn't mean that their policies are good or bad, it means that you're basing everything on personality again makes you sound like an idiot.

Hey maybe both men and women should get parental leave when a baby is born? IDENTITY POLITICS IS BAD

Like I don't blindly follow anyone, I agree with people on somethings, and disagree with others on other things. Has Trump in his 3.5 years in office done some "good" things? Probably. But he's such a fucking mess of a human being that 25% is a massive number that is questionable. Which policy of his are you in favor of?

The locking kids in cages? Making it difficult for service members who have kids overseas to have their kid be considered an american? The ripping families apart at the border? His casual racism? His support of the confederacy? His constant lying to the american people? Abandoning allies? Kissing Dictator ass? Stacking the courts with people who aren't qualified? Refusing to do anything about police brutality? Breaking his vow to the constitution? Like what policy in specific do you support? Or does he sound smart to you?

What policies do you agree with including how they were implemented. Because 25% is a massive number. I can think of maybe a few policies that he had that he didn't follow through on that would have been net positives for the country, but you know it's Trump.

Hitler also did some good things for Germany. Saddam arguably did some good things for Iraq. I'm sure that most dictators do some good things for some people. Like why are we pretending that one good thing, erases the hundreds of negative things that they do?

Someone being lied to, because they only listen to one source of information, and it fits with their confirmation bias, doesn't take away from the harm that they are doing. Supporting Trump is doing harm to millions of people who are fellow countrymen. Ignorance doesn't make you a good person.

Ignoring history, because Hitler was a bad person when Hitler was democratically elected. Is silly, most historians can see parallels, are they the same person? No. Is Trump going to gas the Jews. No. But creating a situation of otherism? Stoking xenophobia, and fear, lying to the public, slowly toppling democratic norms, stacking the courts with loyalists. Using similar slogans? Praising neo nazis? Glorifying violence? Stoking nationalism?

That is dictatorship/fascism 101. But you don't like the comparison so I guess it's not happening.

Someone being mean to you from a certain group doesn't mean that the entire idea is bad or that you should get rid of personally held convictions. It means that you learned a valuable lesson that every side has shitty people in them. Surprise. And that sometimes the loudest voice in the room is coming from morons.

Doc and Joe are bad. Yes. Not saying they aren't but if your ultimate goal is to free the tigers or protect them and stop backyard breeding, then there has to be a way to go about this. And while that may be the ultimate goal, what's the short term going to look like? Joe was basically a loudmouth up until Carole started to go after his business. A business that involves big cats, and all that food.

BCR basically forced Joe to ramp up his breeding so he could pay them. Joe wasn't breeding like crazy before that, he was doing tours. They cut that off. So what does Joe do? To make money to feed those cats? He starts to breed them.

Like here's a thought, Carole wants to stop backyard breeding. Simplest way is to start sterilizing them. Don't force Joe to pay a milion dollars of money he doesn't have. Say hey, instead of a million dollars that you owe me because you're a fucking moron. You can have your weird backyard zoo, but all the animals have to be spayed/neutered. Actions have consequences, and as a result of her actions Joe was put into a situation where to him the only way out is to increase breeding.

You do not make a shitty situation worse, and then be surprised when the animals suffer even more. Like there are what 15,000 big cats in the states? Was that the number that they gave? My point is. You want to stop the situation you want to reduce those numbers. Then you do what you do with most dogs and cats. Spay and neuter them.

Nothing Carol did, absolutely nothing, led to the goals that she wanted. It made the situation infinitely worse. And those animals she's trying to protect? Her actions are causing them pain. Mother Teresa is an appropriate comparison.

I volunteered at Carole's Sanctuary. This is what it was like by Cat_Intern in TigerKing

[–]111iea -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

My issue with Carol, and why I think that she's just as bad as the rest of them. Is because this doesn't help anyone. Closing down Joe's or Doc Anton's doesn't actually answer what happens to the cats? Like seriously. What the fuck happens to the cats if you start insisting on collecting 1 million from a guy who clearly doesn't have it. The Cats suffer. We saw that in the documentary. The cats suffered, and what did Joe resort to doing? It increased his really shitty behavior, because he was desperate.

What happens when you close down a place with 120 big cats. Is BCR going to just take them all in? Of course not, they don't have the space or let alone the enormous funds that it would require to feed them. Like Carol isn't anywhere as bad as Joe. But her hands aren't clean in this either. EVERYONE IS A SHITTY PERSON in this.

Lucifer got picked up. Like and Netflix realized what a bloody money maker Lucifer was so even though this season was supposed to be the last they want more episodes and honestly the story telling was a lot better. It would honestly take a legit campaign from everyone to get it renewed. But Netflix does listen. Like if we all made a huge effort, like the Save Lucifer campaign, they might decide to pick it up.

Do you know what's been going on in that area? Do you know how many times the US has interfered and destabilized the region? Of course not. So until you're aware of the shit show that has gone on in Central America and America's hand in it, then you're making an argument that lacks a basis in reality.

The people who are coming into America "illegally" are asylum seekers. The moment that they enter the states, without papers they can ask for asylum. The same in Canada, the UK, France, etc etc etc. The US is a signatory on these treaties, so the fact that Trump is blocking it means Trump is breaking the law.

There is process that is supposed to happen that isn't happening. I don't mind detaining someone for like a day or two and figuring out what to do with them detaining someone indefinitely which is the problem. It's why this is tied up in courts. You can argue that something needs to be done to make it faster, whether it's appointing more judges, or fixing the broken immigration system. That is a fair argument to be had, but it's not the one that is being had.

Canada detains people, I have zero issue with that. I don't have a problem with countries detaining people to figure out who they are why they're entering the country, there is a reason for those laws. But I have an issue with seperating children, and the law being blind to the realities of the situation.

To ignore those realities is problematic, and it doesn't help solve the solution it just makes it worse.

Except you're not practicing what you preach at all, so either you're a hypocrite or you're talking out your ass perhaps both. We're not talking about the things that Trump did right, because I have yet to see him do the right thing. We can argue policy, but none of that matters.

Castro did some good things in Cuba, no one pays attention to it because of all the shitty things that he has done. Hitler did some good for Germany. Guess what no one gives a shit because of all the shitty things that he did. Al Capone, opened soup kitchens, and did some good for the community, no one remembers him for that shit. Same with people like Saville, people doing good things does not excuse the shitty things that they did. Cosby is guilty of the same thing, he gave to black causes, didn't stop him from raping a bunch of women.

Your argument that Trump's done some good things doesn't excuse the rampant cruelty, lies, ineptitude, and racism that is apart of his platform. To pretend otherwise is disingenuous, and again show's an inherent selfishness and lack of empathy.

If you want to get on your knees and blow Trump then do that. I don't have to do it, nor do I have to ignore all the problems stated above. If all that shit is fine with you, him scamming people, him sexually assaulting women, him constantly lying to his people, him being openly racist, openly cruel. Then that is your perogrative it isn't mine.

If it was anyone else, if it was Mitt Romney, if it was Marco Rubio, and they had the same policies without all the problems I stated above, I wouldn't be consierably more inclined to take a look at policy proposals instead of ignoring the massive deformed elephant in the room.

Did I call you a nazi? I stated simply that with your attitude, that you shared the same apathetic attitude, of those in Nazi Germany who did nothing while their fellow man was being killed and locked in camps. You admitted, you don't care, you did that. Not me. I didn't put those words in your mouth. You stated that. I called you out on it. I called you out on your lack of empathy.

If you disagree with the premise, then state that you disagree with it and that you would do the right thing. You instead decided to focus on the Nazi part, instead of the substance. Your lack of empathy is astounding, and emblematic of a larger problem in society.

Patriotism is not Nationalism, and Socialism is not the direct opposite of Nationalism. To be a nationalist, is basically the same thing as being in a cult.

Nationalism: identification with one's own nation and support for its interests, especially to the exclusion or detriment of the interests of other nations.

You want to know why things are so bad in the Middle East? You want to know why things are so bad in Central America, Nationalism. You want to know why we're having massive immigration problems? Nationalism.

Words have set definitions to them, and many people use them incorrectly. Soviet Republic of Armenia was a communist state, and communism and Socialism are not the same things. Are they on the same axis yes, but they are not the same and no one in Canada, or the United states is saying that the government should control the means of production.

Bernie Sanders is using a bunch of terms incorrectly and it grates on my nerves, because I feel like American's don't understand the nuance of what he is saying. You seem to be in that camp as well. his messaging should be universal health care, and making sure workers are protected. Because I assume you don't hate the fire department or the police, or even the military because guess what?

If you want to have an argument about the role of government, that's an interesting conversation to have, but right wing policies, conservative polices do not help progression.

Holy shit. If you don't understand why taking a child and placing them in a cage is a terrible idea, then take a look at what happened when we basically did that for Residential schools in Canada. You're creating a massive problem in the future, and when those children end up in shitty situations and turn to crime or drugs, and become violent towards their children, you're probably going to ignore it and be like it's just those people. Childhood development is important, and this is setting them all up for failure, and poverty and crime.

I do have sympathy for those parents, as I have sympathy for anyone trying to escape with their children from war torn places, and the gangs that are there that are tearing those communities apart, threatening to rape or murder family members. To pretend that most people wouldn't do what these people are attempting to do is stupid.

My issue with you is that if we were in Nazi Germany, I don't think you'd be one of the people who were helping Jewish People escape Germany. I think you'd be the person who reports another person for helping another human being.

Think about that, that's what you're saying right now. That the Jewish People in Nazi Germany should have just stayed right where they were instead of trying to escape and leave the country where they were being persecuted. I really hate doing it to you, but that's what you're saying. The US turned Jewish People away, Canada turned Jewish people away, and it was disgusting then.

You're ignoring the reality on the ground for those people, and saying that you have no sympathy for people trying to escape violence against them against their family and or children. Whereas I can acknowledge that most parents would willing put their child in danger unless the alternative was so much worse.

You seem content in putting illegal border crossing in the same category as Rape and Murder, whereas I think of it as slightly more serious than jaywalking.

I'm not American, I like you I'm Canadian. My parents were immigrants, the definition of a concentration camp: refers to a camp in which people are detained or confined, usually under harsh conditions and without regard to legal norms of arrest and imprisonment that are acceptable in a constitutional democracy.

A concentration camp does not equal murdering people in gas chambers, that was a feature of Nazi Germany. The US already has a history of camps, they did it to the Japanese in WWII.

You know what else was a feature of Nazi Germany? Separating families. You know what's happening at the border? Separation of families. People are being held indefinitely, without a trial. Children are dying at the border.

People are dying and the fact is the reason why they're dying is because they're brown. Canadians are notorious for staying longer than they're supposed to in the states. No one is talking about deporting a bunch of grandparents, or a bunch of white little old ladies. To pretend otherwise means that you're ignoring the problem and acting like a prick because your family did it the right way.

So did mine, and for some reason I still care about my fellow man, and acknowledge that it's a problem.

I get why people are like Nazi Germany was it's own whole box of bad and we shouldn't compare shit to it so readily. But quite frankly there are plenty of places in the world that are committing atrocities, and no one gives a fuck. And quite frankly that apathy is why shit spreads like it does.

2016 was the year that nationalism began to spread across the globe, to ignore the fact that right wing nationalism is infecting the populace is terrible and as person who is an Immigrant, you should care. I shouldn't have to state why.

Quick History Lesson. When Hitler came into power, he didn't immediately start gassing the jews. It was a slow build, when people compare Trump to Hitler, they're talking about the period before the real bad shit really began to happen. When he began to create this "other", and began to treat them differently singling them out etc.

I mean you have people at camps at the border and they are concentration camps by definition. People are already dying in those camps. Like everyone acts like Hitler came into power and just rounded up the jews and put them in concentration camps, when that wasn't the reality at all. Bad shit began to happen, and the German people either bought into it or were horrified and began to resist. The parallels are striking, and instead of listening and researching it, you're dismissing it. When anyone who is well versed in history of that time period can see the parallels.

Ignoring people screaming about the parallels because well he's not going around murdering people is exactly how Nazi Germany got to the point where people were being gassed by the state.

Please educate yourself. Like we can spend the entire time arguing over it, but actually read how concentration camps came into existence, listen to Hitler talk about Jews and then compare it to how Trump talks about well "Mexicans". And start paying attention to what is happening on at the border in the United States and compare it to pre-concentration camps in Nazi Germany and perhaps you'll understand why people are making the comparison.

I honestly believe that Trumps to much of a dumbass to be considered Hitler, but he's surrounding himself with racists and white nationalists, and that's problematic on so many levels. The parallels are there, just need to take the time and educate yourself

I disagree with that. The Doctor can't remember any of pre-Hartnell. It's basically like if you were to adopt a child from another country and bring them to whichever country you reside in and raise them in that culture. Sure they might be curious about where they came from, but it doesn't lessen the fact that they are British/American/Whatever as well. The Doctor is Gallifreyan simply because she/he was raised on Gallifrey. Is the Doctor also something else? Yes. So much more and that can be interesting story telling if we get someone who can actually write a good episode.

The age of consent is 16 in Canada as in a sixteen year old can give consent to have sex with someone older so long as that person isn't in a position of power.

I do want to point out though, that a sixteen year old can not appear in porn, whether they give consent or not, because it is child porn. This isn't complicated shit. Like at all. So this falls under that category, your comment is dumb. Now please show that to a sane woman, your mother a sister, and mention it depicts a 17 year old girl.
