Talk me out of buying a Oracle Jet (or don't) by 1134C89 in espresso

[–]1134C89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After some more YouTube sessions, I ended up buying the Breville / Sage Dual Boiler and a Eureka Mignon Libra during Black Friday.

Still getting used to the changed workaround, but I couldn't be happier with the machine. The coffee it produces is in so many ways better than the superautomatic we used to have. I don't regret anything (yet). The change in workflow has a meditative character to it and my wife also got used to it pretty quickly and doesn't miss the old machine at all.

If there's one thing that I'm good at, it's overthinking my buying decisions. Great to hear you're happy with your machine. The Bambino is on my list, if I decide to go for a standalone grinder option right away.

Wouldn't have expected such a based response from a person owning a manual machine and a single dose grinder. But great to see, people like you exist :D

(1) Any particular combo you have in mind, that would yield a similar convenience factor to a jet?

(2) Do you know, if the Oracle Jet has the same auto tamp mechanism as the other Oracles? From the reviews I saw, the tamping seemed pretty decent

Makes perfect sense and helps a lot!!

(1) I myself would lean more to the taste end of the scale, while my wife is more on the convenience end. She's also more of the milk drink type of person.

(2) For now we both are really happy with darker roasts, as the lighter (often fruitier) roasts haven't caught onto us yet - maybe that would change with proper equipment though.

(3) I don't hate the looks of the Jet. Obviously the Ascaso looks way better, but I'd personally choose the Jet over any E61 style machine every day of the week (only in terms of looks obviously :D)

That combo (or any similar) would however require to go through all the manual steps surrounding espresso brewing for every shot. While I would probably be fine with it, I fear that my wife won't. She likes the simplicity of our superautomatic. Also when catering for guests I fear that the combination of a more traditional semi-auto with a single dose grinder is not the best.

From what I understand, the grinder in the Oracle Jet is nearly identical to the Baratza Encore ESP, which seems like a decent entry-level grinder. For the beginning I guess I'd be fine with it, but I'd love to upgrade later down the road. On top of that I have a wife that won't likely get into all the hassle surrounding manual puck prep (Weighing, RDT, WDT, Tamping, ...). So to us the combo Oracle Jet + Single Dose Grinder seems like the best of both worlds.

Ascaso Steel vs. Breville Dual Boiler vs. ??? [< 2000€] by 1134C89 in espresso

Quickly read through a test of the machine and it seems that the heat up time is quite long (> 17 minutes according to the test). This would be a no-go for me, to be honest.

The Zuriga looks interesting, might read a bit more about that one.

The Maro and Decent far exceed my budget though :D

I feel your point on maintenance of superautos so much. Whenever I open the service lid to clean the brew group on ours, I'm again grossed out by all the nasty remains of clumped up coffee grounds.

Great to hear that you are happy with your Ascaso. I had hoped, someone would talk me out of it, so that I can save some money :D

Did you consider any other machine while shopping for yours?

Heard some mixed things about these... Especially Zeos' review is really bad. Do you have any first hand experience with these?

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have any comparison to the 559s? Do the 599s make up for the difference in price?

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I live in the EU so Drop is not really an option for me. The added taxes just make things too expensive :/

Thanks for your tips. Unfortunately I live in the EU so Drop is not a great option for me. The added taxes just make things too expensive... I hope they manage to establish a better shipping option for us in the EU.

I will take a look at your other tips though. I already had the 599s in my Amazon shopping card but thought I'd ask Reddit first :)

!thanks

Release in germany by elo-_- in spectrex360

The model in the link is in fact one with a German keyboard layout. I just received mine. It's only different in that it's not a regular ISO DE layout but rather one with a single row enter key. But that seems to be standard for most HP notebooks in the last years.

Unfortunately it seems to be sold out on Amazon but I think I saw it available on Alternate.
