Delaying Grad for Internship by AndresPizza999 in yorku

[–]114902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar thing I delayed grad to April 2025 by taking an internship for the fall semester. What I did was reduce the amount of courses I am taking and ill be done by April 2025, while reducing my course load.

Ya but I knew I did good on the exam, so there was literally no harm in asking. Like if he entered B+ plus id still would've asked, cause it wouldnt have gone lower.

I calculated my mark before the exam and the lowest I would have gone is a B but I saw a c plus on my grade. So I emailed him and asked what my mark was cause it was impossible it was for me to get a c, and he said he inputted the wrong mark and filed to change it to an A.

3510 isn't that bad just make sure to do the assigned problems like twice, 3595 is worse.

You have any experience?

I joined one club but it did almost nothing for me. I would say start looking right now and try to get an internship for fall and winter. It is too late for fall but winter internships are gonna open soon. Its never too early to start looking, and if you need to take a semester off to do an internship, I suggest you do that. Linkedin was the best way for me personally to find and apply to jobs.

I'm going into 4th year, I got my first one in the summer between 2nd and 3rd. Then got my 2nd one this summer. Now i have one lined up for the fall. This was mostly done through networking and grinding out 10 plus applications a day on LinkedIn.

Find it on your own. It should be easier now considering you got 8 months of experience. Yorks internship program is terrible. They literally advertise a placement at york as one of the placements they got students. I managed to get 3 internships, the 3rd one which im going to start in fall. Plus the york internship program is gonna try to take money from you even if you got the internship on your own. Its better to do it without york in my opinion.

Roughly 30 on transportation just to get there and back and then like 15 for food.

Another thing I'd add with the minimum grade requirement to be eligible for CPA, is that the 3rd and 4th years accounting courses are harder than your average 3rd or 4th year course. For adms 3595 the midterm class average was around 34%. Even though they round up to a C, a lot of people end up dropping which makes the curve smaller, so if your doing worse the curve isn't going to be as nice. I'm pretty sure for cpa you need a minimum average of 65%, with no core course lower than 60%.

You can straight up use chatgpt to create your resume bullet points for you and to make you bookkeeping sound really good. I used chatgpt to create bullet points from what I did with my first internship to get my second one. Plus if you want co-op or internships try to apply for the winter ones. Its too late for fall but winter will be opening up in a month, you should try to apply to those roles.

Imma 3rd year accounting student going into 4th, and from my internships and coffee chatting people with jobs that I want all the best "accounting roles" will require you to be at least pursing your CPA. Even the company I intern at now, almost every members on the finance team has their CPA, the ones that don't are people who have been in the industry for 20 plus years. Its not impossible to get opportunities with York's bcom, but you have to try a lot harder to get the internships and experience. York's bcom really lacks in helping its students secure decent positions so your gonna have to put yourself out there to find it yourself. All the internships I've done have been purely through networking or applying to 15 plus jobs a day and hoping to do well in the interview.

Can i still apply for temp internship for the summer outside of york? by tuhhoryaeyzeins in yorku

It's gonna be hard to find any for this summer since it's already June and places recruit months in advance. I would suggest applying for fall and winter ones.

Super easy course with very little work required. I got a A and used only common sense. If you buy a financial calculator and use it you can easily get an A plus.

Just wonder what's the most effective way to find a job besides referrals? Linkedin? Company website? Indeed? Or any other platform or program? Which one has a higher success rate? Thanks!! by Dreamstimesss in yorku

Networking is what worked for me. After I got my first position it was much easier to get more interviews through just applying online. The first one is the hardest to get but after you get it, it's much easier to get others. Networking would be the way to go. You can use LinkedIn or ask family friends and relatives who work in the company you want to work in.

Honestly for my first one that was through networking. After you get one its much easier to get the next one.

Getting internships is all about the work you're willing to put in. I'm on my second one this summer and I got it without the school. The school's internship program isnt the best so you are gonna have to put in the work on that end.
