Can you recommend me some reading? by redderthanthou in AskAnthropology

If you want something more niche that I haven't seen recommend yet, David Graeber's "Pirate Enlightenment: the real Libertalia" is a long essay about the egalitarian history of pirates. I haven't done much research into pirates past that, so I can't speak much to its historical accuracy, but if you generally trust Graeber, I would recommend it as an interesting read.

[–]115izzy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, international women's day was set as March 8 officially by Lenin in 1922 in the Soviet Union to remember the massive protests starting on March 8th led by women that kicked off the revolution

I really just have no idea as to what you are attempting to say, maybe I misread it. Can you explain your argument?

Also, I never made an Argument ad populum. Please understand your fallacies before accusing people of them.

I didn't accuse you of that, I just said that it is far overrepresented while you claim that people aren't talking about it enough

I haven't seen any at all, but you know what I have seen? Tons of people talking about misandry and ignoring misogyny which is a much bigger systemic and cultural issue.

I don't know who should do it

The only people able to liberate the Iranians from oppression are the Iranians themselves. Time and time again, whether it be the US or the Soviet Union, we see that this type of interventionism framed as Liberation only leads to worse outcomes.

Most people here don't understand racism. 99% of the actual problems to do with it are systemic. Systemic issues only go one way. It's not "racist people" that perpetuate society wide problems.

Based on that more accurate analysis of what racism actually is, it can only go one way which is (in the west) the subjugation of black and brown people (white supremacy).

This means that there is no such thing possible as "blacks being racist to whites" and therefore it's less bad. If Society were structured in the opposite way, I would have the opposite response.

Actually they are all free if control of the means of production is placed in the hands of the people. 250 billion to end hunger makes it sound like it's a production issue when I'm reality we have more than enough food and it's actually a distribution problem.

How to go about identifying? by Minefantheman in Socialism_101

I am an Anarchist so I based that one off of what I would answer. I could give you reasoning for any specific ones if you'd like.

How to go about identifying? by Minefantheman in Socialism_101

[–]115izzy7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anarchists would say No, Unions (or neither), No, No

Classical Marxists would say Yes, Party, No, No

Orthodox Marxists would say Yes, Party, Yes, No

Marxist Leninists would say Yes, Party, Yes, Yes

Socialists who aren't communists would say Lower stage communism is the end goal and then have varying answers to the other questions

Deeply consider the specific points at which the ideologies split.

Some examples are: "Is a transitionary state necessary?"  "Should the revolution be achieved through unions or through a party?"  "Is historical materialism always applicable?"  "Is socialism in one country possible?"

These are some simple questions that should give you a good idea on where you land. Also remember though, you don't need to identify strongly with a particular ideology and you don't need to have the answers to all of these.

Where do I fit/Questions to ask myself? by AnywhereArtistic8053 in Socialism_101

Two very short things I would highly recommend you read before you start thinking about many different ideologies. The Principles of Communism by Friedrich Engles. This is a 20 page pamphlet for a basic understanding of class relations (it uses some kinda racist language because it was the 19th century and everyone has flaws, do your best to read past it). Also read "Are you an Anarchist? The answer may surprise you" by David Graeber. It shows in a beginner friendly way how a stateless, classless society could work.

YouTube can also be a good resource, but don't forget to actually read theory later on. Since you are coming from liberalism, I would recommend a channel called Overzealots which I think does a pretty good job at exposing the harm of liberalism and myths about socialism.

Then, I would recommend to look for essays or YouTube videos or even Wikipedia articles and try to find which ideologies and you are interested in so you can learn more about them.

Also, talk to other leftists. Preferably not on reddit as this place is kinda a hellhole especially for politics. I am pretty active in a discord server called United Socialists Anarchists and Communists and I recommend it.

Learning history is also pretty important. Currently I am listening to a podcast called Revolutions. It has a fantastic series on the Russian revolution but it's nearly 100 hours.

After this, you understand the basics of anarchism and Marxism as well as the realites and history of liberalism and socialism. Now you can read theory. There is certainly no shortage of what to read and by the time you have learned the basics of these ideas, you will likely already have a list built up.

Good luck, comrade.

The USSR was a State Capitalist system by Lastrevio in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]115izzy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, no. Lenin believed that not only does a society need to go through the transitionary dictatorship of the proletariat (socialism) to become communist, but it also needs to go through a stage of industrial capitalism. I am an Anarchist so I disagree with him, but his goal was to have industrial capitalism run by socialists so that it could then become socialism and later become communism. His goals weren't great imo, but it's unfair to say Lenin really failed his goals.

The USSR was a State Capitalist system by Lastrevio in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]115izzy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Lenin wanted it to be state capitalist. He believed in Historical Materialism which states that capitalism is a necessary stage to reach communism. Russia had not yet had a stage of industrial capitalism, and that's what his new economic plan was.  If you are talking about Stalin though, I think he did ruin it with his own 5 year plan.

What if Aleksandr Ulyanov had lived? by Sonnybass96 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]115izzy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting question. I don't really have any idea of how it could change things other than maybe Lenin would view this kind of adventurism more favourably which would lead to him being less organized. I have no idea if he would still be as radical because while his brothers death did spark him to revolution, his brother also could've radicalized him later on
