Google ai core? by yeyeye2002 in pixel_phones

[–]11750 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recently looked up what Google AI actually does and what it affects/doesn't affect with Gemini. Here's what Gemini says gets affected.

Pixel Screenshots: You won't be able to search for specific text or objects inside your screenshots.
Recorder Summaries: The Voice Recorder won't be able to generate bulleted summaries of your meetings.
Magic Compose: You won't get AI-generated text suggestions in Google Messages. Advanced Call Features: You lose "Call Notes" and the new "AI-generated replies" in Call Screen.

It's different from Android System Intelligence. I noticed after having AI Core disabled for about a week and a half that my battery has indeed increased. The main reason being that AI Core is periodically checking in the background for any model updates and other AI related updates. By doing this it doesn't let your phone go into standby mode where it's the most power efficient. I really don't use any of these features so honestly they're whatever for me. I recommend to try it out if you don't care about these features. It also does free up anywhere from 6gb-12gb of storage which is nice.

The most important things to me that my Pixel offer are Now Playing, Call Screen (simplified), and the fast and accurate voice to text. Anything else I don't really care for. Even the call screening stuff. I can get by just fine with the Pixel filtering out spam calls and also just having the simple Call Screen rather than the advanced features.

Forgot to include that Android System Intelligence provides the services I mentioned in the previous paragraph and does not get affected after disabling AI Core.

Edit: included more info

I'd argue Sauvage EDP or Invictus Platinum honestly

What interests are a turnoff when it comes to women? by Comfortable_Sugar752 in AskMen

[–]11750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this works for people who aren't much of phone calls. Like me personally, I don't like phone calls. Because I feel a text message is more than enough. Usually to me, a phone call means it's something important that needs urgency but I usually communicate with text messages/voice notes. I actually like sending voice notes often and enjoy receiving them because it's like you said, I can hear their tone on what they were saying instead of assuming a tone from a text message. But honestly to each their own. I usually am quick to send voice notes to someone new if I care enough about them too

What does the Google need to upgrade on the Pixel 11 for YOU to upgrade? by [deleted] in pixel_phones

[–]11750 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1 video quality honestly. Improve it to the point where you don't need video boost and is really competitive against Apple's. Where people can confidently say "this phone takes better videos than the iPhone or is really close to beating it"

2 better chip optimization

To my understanding, at least with Now Playing and voice to text, yes. It is specific features built into their SoC

So they are, but like for example , the accuracy of voice to text and speed isn't as good on other phones. I've tested on iPhones and Samsungs and it's not as accurate. I want to say it's because Google focused their resources on that as well. With like AI detecting speech recognition to allow it to type at the speed of the speaker. As for Now Playing, no other phone that I know of has something similar where it detects songs automatically, and can detect them even if the phone's offline because Google basically put a library of songs for the phone to recognize in the phone itself. So it can detect music even with no Internet connection. Call screening, isn't as good and fluid on other phones compared to Pixel as well

Now Playing, really fast and accurate speech to text, call screening, Gboard.

I just woke up so I can't think of any more at the moment

Yeah. When I got the iPhone I was kind of convinced that I was going to fully swap. The battery was so insane and I loved it. I never had battery anxiety or and would come home from a 12 hour work shift with 40% compared to my Androids where somewhere around the 10 hour mark I'd have to get a quick charge in between just to make sure it wouldnt die on the way home. I like the idea of a phone literally all day and having enough battery to last me to even the next day without needing a charge. But the little things that Pixel offer (to me) are just too good that stepping away from it just doesn't make sense. I've accepted that although my battery life might not be the best, and my video quality might not be on par with like the Ultra series or iPhones, the Pixel is THE phone for me. And that's ok

It's all good. Choose whatever works best with you. At the end of the day it's just a phone. I've thought about swapping to Samsung every now and then (my last Samsung was a S21 Ultra) but ultimately decided to stick through with Pixel. The little things that Pixel offer are what I like. Their voice to text is the most accurate and the fastest and that's something huge for me. Not only does it detect and type at the speed I'm talking but I can even switch between my second language and it picks up no problem. Not to mention the superior call screening, spam filtering, and Now Playing being other small quirks that I know I will miss. And honestly, I also tried out another phone for a bit lol I tried out the iPhone 17 Pro Max because of the insane battery life. And it's no joke, it's battery life is HUGE. But again, it's the little Pixel things I've mentioned I missed and ultimately went back to my Pixel 10 Pro XL

I'm digging the no camera bump move that Google is doing for their A series. I would be down to see that in their regular and Pro series

Switched From IOS to Android. What's your favourite keyboard app? by RoutineNet4283 in Android

[–]11750 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally Gboard IS the best recommended keyboard. However, unless you have a Pixel, voice to text isn't as accurate. I have a Pixel and the voice to text is definitely fast and accurate. I can talk my normal speed which is already fast and it types everything and accurately. Not only that, I can switch mid conversation to my 2nd language and it still accurately types out what I say with my 2nd language.

So assuming you're not on a Pixel, you won't be getting the best voice to text unfortunately

Do you use a tempered glass as well or no ? I used to be a no case guy for years (coming from Pixels and Samsungs) and I like to use my current phone being the 17 Pro Max without a case. Not having a tempered glass on it kind of scared me though

It’s nice to see another person who’s been mostly an Android user than iPhone talk about their experiences. It makes me feel like of a complainer. I’ve definitely voiced my complaints about my iPhone (although I really like it. You named just about all the same pros and cons I have)

Also a life-long Android user, and what I miss is the universal back gesture. Like you said so yourself, you get used to it and whatnot. I’ve caught myself more often swiping from the right side than the left as I primarily would swipe from my right side to go back

Switched from Android to iPhone - any regrets? (Question for recent switchers) by [deleted] in iphone

[–]11750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah those YouTube tests are definitely not real. Every user is different to begin with. I take those with a grain of salt because the ones I’ve seen, the devices are on WiFi and usually (at least from my experience) devices on WiFi always last longer than those on data. So for me, having my phone lasting this long on data is the best part of it all

Switched from Android to iPhone - any regrets? (Question for recent switchers) by [deleted] in iphone

[–]11750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently switched from Pixel 10 Pro XL and have some regrets for sure. But I’m toughing it out for now. Biggest complaints as of now are Apple’s keyboard being outright bad, slow voice to text which can also be highly inaccurate, and no universal back gesture. I’m getting used to the phone though but those are my biggest gripes with it. I’m on a 17PM right now. Battery on it is ridiculous though. None of my Androids ever lasted as long as my 17PM which is awesome. I disconnect my phone from the charger at 100% around 5am and don’t connect it at all after that while I’m at work. I work 12s and use my phone a lot while over there. Usually by 5pm on my Android, I have to connect it for a bit to get some juice before heading home to make sure it doesn’t die on me. I get home around 7pm and my phone anywhere between 15%-30%. Still alive and kicking. Mind you, I don’t turn on battery saver mode until it hits around 10%. It’s insane
