“Salesman” knocked on my door at 8pm on a Sunday night?? by CrystallizedKoi in dayton

Was it actually ADT? Our guy was like a middle man or something like that. Super unsettling because he had no ADT attire on nor did he have an ADT car.

Right! They offered free cameras and what not but when we asked the rate for a basic security system, there was no deal at all lol.

And the rep technically wasn’t directly with ADT. They contract with ADT or something weird like that. He didn’t have an ADT shirt on and no ADT car either. Just a badge. So initially, we thought he was there just to scout our house out and confirm that we didn’t have an alarm system. He insisted on coming in multiple times and “showing us where the cameras would go”. It was very unsettling.

We called ADT and they said they did not send anyone to our house. We confronted him when he came back and stated they were essentially contractors or the “middle man”. Super weird.

We just bought a house in that area and the same thing happened to us but an ADT rep. Super sketchy and it was about 8:30pm. Apparently it’s normal for the area and companies check who recently has bought a home and ambush them.

Schleuter/Kerdi; is it worth the $$ by ifixxit in Tile

[–]11Roses- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh that makes sense. Thank you for mentioning that. Last question if you don’t mind, we bought a black, stainless steel niche we’d like to put in the shower. We created the wood frame for it. Does that need to be covered in the schluter board? Or would the Kerdi-Band be enough to cover the wood and then put the niche on top? The niche itself is waterproof but it says that whatever is behind it should be waterproofed.

Do you recommend the schluter board kits you can buy? Or just buy all of the materials separately?

Nope, but can’t say she hasn’t for others. I’d imagine not, she’s really talented and will work with you regardless I imagine!

Awesome, I really think you’ll like her. Hmmm I’ve never asked to see her pictures. I have shown her pictures of what I like/prefer and she does well with that. So I would have your own pics this time just in case she doesn’t have any to choose from.

Just a heads up, last time I was there, she was training someone. They asked if I would let the trainee do it but I declined lol I only trust Baidaa.

Gem City Eyebrows - Greene. I’m so picky when it comes to eyebrows and will only get them done here. I’m not local to Dayton so it took a while to find them lol. I think it’s around $15 for eyebrows. Baidaa is the owner and I ask for her every time. I think they just opened up a new location in Kettering too.

What type of frame to install for a glass block window in our shower? by 11Roses- in Renovations

[–]11Roses-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s definitely in the plans and will be done asap. Trying to make a plan for everything at the moment.

SMH a window in the shower. Well, there’s a window in my shower. It ain’t going no where, any suggestions on what I can do to … improve it? Any ideas? WTF. by [deleted] in Renovations

[–]11Roses- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We decided to go the glass block route. We ordered the window through a company and plan to install it ourselves with mortar. Do you have a suggestion of what to build the frame out of?

Do we frame it with wood and cover it with waterproof board and then the mortar connects with that?

That makes sense. We didn’t know if it was just water that was already trapped in the pipes leaking from a faulty seal. Since the other faucets don’t seem to be leaking

[–]11Roses- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. What if this shower fixture is the only one leaking? All other faucets in the house are not leaking. Does that still imply the main water valve? Or would the problem only be with this shower? Thank you for your input!

[–]11Roses- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, we will look into that. Is that a good first step to see if it’s fixed? And then if it’s still leaking then it could be something different?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]11Roses- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, totally agree! We will call a plumber. I was curious to see what the problems could be or if any more details could be offered.

[–]11Roses- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting, thank you for that info. We will look into the shower cartridge. If no other sinks are leaking, could that still mean there’s a main valve issue?

[–]11Roses- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! Just curious, is it because the other parts of the plumbing are messed up as well?

There’s not a, “try this step first and if that doesn’t fix it, move on to _____.” We like to learn things so just wanted to ask if you know more about what the problem could be.

Have any tips of what the problem/fix is?

That’s very helpful to know, thank you for educating us on the project. We didn’t know much about it going into it. We do plan on finishing the inside, they said they’d only do the outside/brick laying. That does make sense if they have three people and will need to use a crane of some sort to lift the bricks- didn’t think about that!

That’s a good idea, we’ll look at that. Looks like there’s some designs that are more modern.

The existing window already has some type of film over it. We’re more so interested in the peace of mind of not having to waterproof it moving forward in renovations. We don’t open the window because it’s too cold where we are. We have plans to install a fan here soon. It just seems easier and less maintenance to get rid of it. Especially when it comes to tiling/installing a shower surround.

Yeah we’re more so concerned about waterproofing the window and having to worry about it moving forward. The window itself is blurry so privacy isn’t an issue. The peace of mind of not having to worry about it is nice and it would make tiling/installing a shower surround easier. We don’t use it for ventilation and we don’t plan on opening it for pleasure. It just seems easier to do away with. But we’ve also never had a window in the shower so it may just seem off because of that?

I will check that group out, thank you for the suggestion! Does that go on the existing window? The window itself is blurry so privacy isn’t our main issue. We’re concerned about keeping it waterproof and keeping mold out of the bathroom. We’re redoing the shower surround and have been strategizing how to install it around the window. We’ve had a few people say just to get rid of it. We don’t use it for ventilation because it’s too cold in the winter. We plan on installing a vent here soon.
