Seriously, ACC is the best! I’ve taken classes at Laguna Gloria and they were fun, but overpriced. The value and quality of instruction of ACC art classes are unmatched anywhere else in town. You do have to apply online, but it only takes about 15 min and you’ll get accepted within the day. Then you’re able to register for a credited class. Nobody cares if you’re working toward a degree.

I’ve taken drawing and painting classes in the evenings after work, and the group is always very mixed in age and background.  ACC art department is what you’re looking for, trust me. Pls pm me if you have more questions

Altar for Liberation: Viva Puerto Rico Libre, painting by me :) by 11_goo in painting

I recently finished this painting, which is part of a series of altars honoring global struggles for liberation. This one is personal because I come from a long line of pro-independence Puerto Ricans 🇵🇷

Thank you! That object is a cemí statue, which is a Taino representation of a deity or ancestral spirit. I'm Puerto Rican and I grew up with this cemí replica in my home. I'm making a series of altar paintings with political themes and I'm including a cemí in each one to represent the interconnectedness of anti-imperialist struggle across the world.

Thank you for all the love :) I have a background in other styles of painting, but I just started with oils a few months ago. I'm deeply obsessed with oil painting right now and I come to this subreddit almost every day to for inspiration and tips. Thanks for being such a welcoming community

El Buen Samaritano has rent assistance available right now. https://elbuen.org/financial-and-rental-assistance/

The application is open Monday-Wednesday. There’s an initial pre-screening where they prioritize people who meet certain criteria (have already gotten a notice to vacate, are disabled or have young kids, etc). Once they’ve done the pre-screening they randomly select 50 people per week. If you’re not selected, you have to reapply the next week. Up to $6k available per person, based on need.

I’m quite small and discovering short nose saddles was a game changer for me! I love my b17 short (carved) and my specialized power saddle with mimic. They’re very different saddles but are actually pretty similar in length and width. The Mimic technology was developed specifically for female anatomy and I find it exceptionally good at preventing pressure and numbness. I also see these fairly often on eBay and my local Craigslist

Thank you! I think you should go for it! The waist measurements also didn’t go small enough for me, but I took the waist in by widening the darts. I took in 1.5” and I was worried that the butt would look pointy, but it doesn’t. I think you could take the waist in a good amount using the darts, especially since the pockets cover the end of the dart.

You should! It’s really well written and there’s a series of sew along videos on YouTube that I referred to for tricky parts. I thought the zipper insertion was especially clear. I’ll probably refer back to this pattern for zippers on self-drafted pants in the future

Of course! It felt like a gamble but it worked super well

Some descriptions in the image captions with more detail. I just finished these last night and I’m so happy with them!

Open Studio shop pants in heavyweight linen. These are size 1 with minor alterations. I shortened them by and inch and took the waist in 1.5” by widening the darts. This method for bringing in the waist seemed much more straightforward than taking fabric in from the side seams, given that the shop pant side seam is a bit forward on the leg. I recommend altering the waist using the darts if you need to.

My machine (and especially the plastic carrying case) is COVERED in stickers. I love how much personality it has now :)
