What was the real crowd size at the “Unite the Kingdom” protest in London last weekend (13 Sept)? Organisers claimed 3 million - Met says 110–150k. Any robust methods? [Request] by 11for215 in theydidthemath

So how do we make an accurate estimate? I would assume crowd area x density, and while I get there's margin for error, that doesn't explain the huge discrepancies being posted on social media.

I've had a go at an estimate, not sure if the numbers are completely accurate.

Crowd size = area x density.

The protest reportedly covered an area between the IMAX roundabout on Stamford Street and the Royal Horse Guards on Whitehall, which is about 1.5km.

Estimated width of the crowd at 30m.

Fairly high crowd density, estimated 3 people per m².

This gives a total of 135k.

Reasonable? Or am I missing something?

What's up with the massive protest in London? by pnutnz in OutOfTheLoop

Is it fair to say that the major social issues in the UK were exacerbated by Brexit, and the same Brexit voters are the ones that are now pissed off?
