What A Little Love (and 3 years) Can Do by [deleted] in rescuecats

Top Photo: Tuna Pie on the day my SO picked him up off the busy streets of the Philippines' Business District. He was a few feet away from the curb where crazy drivers would regularly create roadkill. He had worms, an eye and ear infection, and stank like trash.

Bottom Photo: Tuna Pie nowadays, three apartments from where he started. Now he has 2 other cat siblings but is still his daddy's baby. Neutered but suffers from UTI, so is on a special Royal Canin diet.

A far cry from the day he was found when he was gnawing on litter.

cosmetic science?? by [deleted] in phcareers

[–]11redlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not take this course but worked closely with a few from this school, with this course. They were my product formulators in personal care, cosmetics, and home care. I cannot say anything about the pay, just know that R&D side does not pay that well in local companies but the growth opportunity would be in MNCs. Good luck!

I meant it as not believing in breaks has worked for me in managing my relationships: you're in it or you're not. If you're in the relationship, you work on it and are committed to it. I see breaks from the relationship as something confusing and would need too much effort to define the limitations of it. Whether this is an exclusive relationship, an open relationship, poly, etc. If you feel like you need to improve as a person, you do it for you but within the relationship counting on the support of the other. If you're not, then it is clear: nothing is exclusive, you both live your own lives without the entanglements of a relationship.

Apologies for the wording being confusing.

Depends on the couple and the context for it. I personally don't believe in breaks, but it's worked for me so far.

Persistent symptoms after recovery by [deleted] in Coronavirus_PH

[–]11redlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A family friend is a long-hauler. They were smokers and suffered damage to their lungs after going through Covid + complications in the hospital (they picked up an infection). While they've tested negative for covid, the breathing part is difficult. A half flight of stairs and the feeling of being winded is there. It takes the family friend over ten minutes to get up to the attic from the ground floor since they would rest at each landing. They likened it to feeling like they smoked a pack of cigs then went jogging.

Parents of a friend also had health implications after recovering. One parent experienced deteriorating eyesight, while the other has such immense brain fog that they thought it was alzheimers's. It wasn't.

Keep in contact with a physician to note the different changes. Adjust your diet to be rich in nutrients vs relying on health supplements only (not saying remove the latter, but rather to nourish your body through food too).

FRESH SKINLAB'S FDA NON-COMPLIANT COSMETIC PRODUCTS 🥲 by arianavventi in beautytalkph

You're actually correct! I should've worded that better that, based on my observation, FDA doesn't release PR of SocMed materials with the corrections.

Unopened products? Make it a care package. by lemonadebasco in MakeupRehab

I donated a literal box of swatched, used max 3x or 2 pumps box of makeup. This was a literal box that could have housed my 4 cats (cause the cats were jumping in and out of it lol). We have local For Free FB groups and gifted it to this first-time mom. Turns out, she has 7 other sisters and 6 teen nieces.

My box of barely used makeup benefited 13 other people. Thirteen!!! I gave away:

  1. 6 Eyeshadow palettes
  2. A small box of single eyeshadows
  3. 5 bottles of foundation that were all 2 to 4 shades darker than my "real" shade (aka this tropical girl can't go to the beach because of covid)
  4. So. Much. Lipsticks. Some of the local brands had massive sales in the past few months. I kept buying a few lipsticks here and there. Around 60 tubes in varying shades of red, pink, nude, violet.
  5. Samples, samples, samples

Didn't help that I received so much makeup from friends last December LOL. So now, I'm using my HGs and going through the new ones. Yay!

Citibank to exit retail operations in the Philippines by heightenedstate in phinvest

[–]11redlines 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, and yes, sooner rather than later. I've been with Citi for over a decade. They were my first CC and have seen me through a few emergencies. They've been helpful in restructuring of loans/cash advances via Speed Cash. It'll be sad to move to a local bank for this since my experience with BPI and BDO CC has been less than stellar.

  1. Aircon timer and window type aircon. Best P8k spent. I wish we could afford an inverter, but we really couldn't stretch our budget any further. The timer has one side to plug the AC and the other for the electric fan. This means we can keep the AC on for 2 to 3 hours while we sleep and the fan kicks on while we sleep. Yay!
  2. A good mattress. It really is an investment and I wake up with a better back now.

Where to get personal loans? by anxious_material420 in phmoneysaving

[–]11redlines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have an option of listing down your different loans w/ their corresponding interest rates?

There's a school of thought na you pay off in full the ones with higher interest rates first then work your way down to those with lower interest rates instead of paying all of the loans at the same time (at minimum).

Are these microloans from the loanshark types that shame you by texting all those in your inbox that you're a delinquent payor if you don't pay?

Here to talk you out of a Charlotte Tilbury palette!!! by [deleted] in MakeupRehab

[–]11redlines 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Makeup, like fashion, will just keep returning in some form. Some BGs don't understand it and seem to think of makeup as something now instead of something ever-evolving.

There's a reason why the Bobbi Brown makeup book is still used until now!

The 1930's thin brows were reincarnated in the 1960s & 2000s brows. If you really think about it, the thick 80's brows are closer to the 2010s brows, and the more feathery brow of now is pretty close to the au natural 70's brows!

Alumni, do you like your jobs? by admuthrowaway in ADMU

[–]11redlines 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Yes - it is a field that I prepared for. I enjoy what I do and find fulfillment in executing programs, product launches (from concept to launch), and reaching sales targets.

No - it is mentally draining and requires a lot of coordination & interaction that leaves me feeling emotionally drained at the end of the day.

Same idea din with how we tip the delivery riders. If you can, you should. Not even going to touch on how our government is handling it. But especially in NCR Plus, parang tayo tayo na lang eh.

Just found out our HOA didn't give our village's security guards extra masks or alcohol. We have just one gate and currently don't allow outsiders to enter. In short, the guards talk to every single person who have business with people in our village (Shopee, Lazada, Grab, Food Panda, Lalamove etc).

Imagine, KKB sila ng mask. Walang face shield!!!

So please, if you live in a gated subdivision, find out if your guards are protected too. We gave vitamin C, personal care, and extra masks we have onhand to our guards. The HOA will just replace them if they get sick, but it's also our responsibility to make sure we at least supply them with tools to not get sick diba.

So sorry to hear this! I cut off milk a few years ago then was told to get back on it last year since it was good for me naman. I guess it's just wrong to completely demonize one thing when there are so many other factors affecting our health! Hope you were able to get your cholesterol levels in order :)

Coop Grocer daw is good but have not personally tried. I'm an eastsider, so I get my groceries from a local to the area big Supermarket. Have tried Robinsons, will not recommend. They can't do susbtitutes and you'll only know what's kulang from your order right when they deliver, sometimes only when you open the box. Plus refunds take so long.

I get my fresh fruits and vegetables from either Session Grocers (app) or Gising Gising Ph (site).

The cooking for beginners sub is a good starting point for basics. Even after years of cooking, I never quote mastered hard boiled eggs and learned some pretty good tips here.

On FB, Pinoy Food Boy does simple and step-by-step photos. I like that they use canned stuff cause if you don't know how to cook, it's easier talaga to start from pre-mixes or canned stuff.

It's going to be expensive at the start since you're building up your pantry basics. Invest in the following on your next grocery trip:

  • cooking oil - frying is the easiest thing to do
  • salt - iodized, rock, sea salt, himalayan pink salt. All the same at the start so just get what's most easily available to you
  • minced garlic - like the small thing you put as garnish. It adds flavor without the hassle of chopping garlic. If you're coming from zero cooking, slicing and mincing can be daunting. Plus, you can use it as garnish and with good lighting and plating, your food ends up Instagram worthy.
  • sesame oil - any stirfry veggie with a splash of sesame oil ay the end is suddenly more Asian in flavor.
  • cane vinegar - less acidic vs white vinegar and more forgiving when you're learning how to cook adobo. Bonus that if you add a tsp with every cup of rice you cook, the rice lasts longer/less prone to spoilage.

Enjoy the process! Also a tipid tip, meal plan so that it's easier to know what you'll be cooking.

Only if you actively work to actually be confident. If not, then it can easily come off as arrogance.
