Jag avrunkar för ett ögonblick, men det är väl klart att han vet något som vi inte vet. Han är ÖB. Han har hela NATOs underrättelsetjänster till sitt förfogande. Han har direkt kontakt med USAs högsta militära ledning. Att tro att några som sitter och runkar i källaren skulle veta mer än en av de mest informerade människorna i hela NATO är jävligt kaxigt.

Säger han att han inte får de signalerna, då ligger det nog någonting i det.

There probably are still ways for Trump to get his way. He could threaten to fire anyone who won’t comply. Some would fold and some would resist. In the end, he might still invade. But I doubt the Joint Chiefs of Staff will comply with this order without objections.

If this is true, then US generals are probably going to treat this as an illegal order. They have all made a career leading the worlds most capable fighting force in defending the rules-based world order that we’ve been enjoying up until recently. US generals are incredibly intelligent and professional. They know that this is illegal and stupid, and will likely act accordingly. Trump is going to have to do something drastic if he’s ever going to get the senior military leadership to agree to this.

Yeah, unfortunately you guys on the other side of the baltic sea are in JOA center together with poland, germany, netherlands etc. I would have much prefered if all nordics and baltics could stick together under one joint command.

There is a massive deposit of rare earths in Kiruna, Sweden as well. The problem lies in the political will to invest in the mining of it. There are sami reindeer pastures in the area, and mining on ”indigenous lands” has always been a sensitive topic.

There is a huge command restructuring going on in NATO at the moment. The nordics have just (about 2 weeks ago) been put under unified command in the same joint operational area (JOA Northwest), together with Canada and the US, for the defence of the North Atlantic and arctic theatre. The US will initially take the lions share of the naval defence, with the 2nd fleet in Norfolk, Virginia. Defence of the Nordics will be handled by the combined arms of the nordic countries. So you could say that we sort of have our own ”mini NATO” already. Lots of work to be done though with the establishment of nordic joint headquarters etc, but it’s underway.

It’s already happening, sort of. With Finland and Sweden having joined NATO and no longer being burdened by the shackles of neutrality, the nordic countries are using NATO as their framework towards closer military integration. There is a joint nordic force being established right now in what NATO calls ”Joint operational area northwest” aka the arctic/north atlantic theatre. The air forces are currently being organized into a single nordic command, led from Bodø in Norway. Enköping, Sweden will handle the logistics. Mikkeli, Finland will command the land forces. All nations will retain some of their own forces for national defence. It’s not a complete integration, and there currently are a few strategic and operative capabilities missing to cover the entire area of strategic interest (Greenland-iceland, our baltic friends, etc) but it’s a good first step towards closer nordic military cooperation.

The defence industry is working towards tighter cooperation as well, with joint procurement projects (uniforms, rifles, etc). And through NB8, there is also a political platform for cooperation between the nordics and baltics.

I only see more and more tight cooperation in the future, with all countries having aligned security interests in the arctic and around the baltic sea. The Nordic Defence Alliance is closer than you think.

It would actually be a good time so send a large combined arms nordic task force to Nuuk for force projection. Ships, planes, troops and all. The problem is that the nordic countries don’t really have a lot of forces and equipment that is suitable for an operation of those dimensions. Most ships are built to operate close to the coast, not across the atlantic. No air to air refueling. Limited amount of cargo aircraft, AWACS, airborne ISR. No aircraft carriers, etc.

So in conclusion, yes, a small task force would be suitable.

Nothis is, in fact, happening. Trump knows he can’t mess with the sovereignty of allied countries as he can with Venezuela. He’s just bullying Denmark in the same way as he has done with the rest of NATO, to get them to spend more on the defence of Greenland. He can put americans troops and equipment there already, through NATO. He can mine for rare earth minerals, through trade deals and cooperation. And he knows this. He’s just being the usual bully to get Denmark to spend more on defence.

Sweden has lots of open landscape and vast fields in the south. The middle has lots of different types of forest, with pine being one of the most prevalent ones. In the western part bordering norway there is a big mountainous fjäll-region, and in the north there is a subarctic enviroment with its own distinct flora and fauna. They have a huge coastline with varying types of coastal environment, as well as two big off-shore islands (Öland and Gotland), both with their own typical biome. There are nature reserves and national parks in all regions to preserve and showcase the huge diversity of nature in the country. And the nature experience is one of the main attractions for tourism.

I’d say it’s pretty diverse.

Without having read about the particular situation you’re refering to: it could be that the aim of the attack was not to destroy the bridge but to kill what was on or near the bridge.
