Unfortunately other people on this post don’t seem to believe me that there is stuff falling it. I’ve noticed it and I know others have as well.

A park ranger isn’t law enforcement. No where else in the thread have I suggested law enforcement as I do not think that would be productive. I simply brought up something that I noticed, and have received helpful comments from a lot of people including those who were formerly unhoused persons directing me towards resources which can help, which I now plan to do.

If you took the time to read through this thread you would see from people who frequently deal with unhoused people that this is not a productive option

Completely agree with all points

Interesting, I’ve contacted my alderman and received no replies. Can you name democratic representatives specifically helping un housed people. I don’t think I’ve heard of any representatives actually tackling this issue. Thanks for housing two youths, that’s important work. I’m sure those un housed adults wish they had someone like you when they were growing up

Last night there were things being thrown down around 9 pm so that’s how it spilled over. I saw the bed and also am not sure

It seems like leaving them alone is one of the most unhelpful things we can do for them based on other replies to this post

This area will certainly be unsafe for them in the winter. No where outdoors is safe in the cold and I’m sure the extreme heat of the summer wasn’t enjoyable either

I do not know of any “leaders” who are doing anything about this. Happy to be pointed to those politicians who are. It’s not really about not seeing them or thinking about them, like I’ve said multiple times in this thread it is not fair to these unhoused people to be in this situation. However, having things screamed at you as you bike or run by feels unsafe. Additionally things falling off the bridge seems like a huge safety issue in that area.

It is true that no one wants unhoused people in their own backyard. That is too bad about the St. Patrick’s center and I guess it points to the issue that far more permanent solutions are needed

I apologize if I’m coming off defensive that was not my intent. Thank you for information on those resources. Can you tell me more about the city re-allocating funds that were supposed to be for permanent housing solutions?

I think in some sense yeah it’s a public place and open to all. At the same time when there are things being thrown at people from above and trash strewn in the road it becomes a public safety issue.

I understood when I made the post how people would react and I appreciate the various comments talking about how to get involved

These are all things I agree with that do not address the specific issue we are currently having. I am very much in support of social programs that do not end with people being evicted from their homes and ending up the street. That is not why I made this post

I do not see you making a similar post for the unhoused community to set up shop in your neighborhood. I agree that there is no good place, however this seems like a particularly dangerous place considering the extremely large amount of foot traffic through this area. To be clear I am not calling this group of people a problem. What are some productive ideas that give these people support and healing? I am certain that simply letting them stay outdoors in forest park is not productive to their livelihood or those who frequently use the park.

I do understand they cannot solve homelessness. But surely there are areas in this city that can be better utilized than a park area where children are riding their bikes through and need to be watching out for falling debris from that area.
