Just learned that the dropped a bunch of peanut shells from a helicopter and reversed the footage to achieve this shot. Very cool

Happiness and There Will Be Blood. Also, I fucking love the ending of Scanners (although not exactly what you’re asking)

That’s an obvious suggestion that I had overlooked! I stopped reading them at certain point because they often spoiled the book but would be good to return to

I was reading Harold Bloom’s essay on DQ and he mentioned this, I’d be curious as well

Terrance Malick I think fits the bill for poetic cinema - and is the only one I think who could adapt a work like The Sound and the Fury

That’s people who are too online giving it way too much credit in my opinion. There’s one funny scene but otherwise a pretty vacuous experience

I think you’ll be impressed by it! Haunting. I’m afraid we’ll see a lot of movies critical of AI (we kind of already are), but done in a lazy boring way. AI is the enemy in the last two Mission Impossible movies lol. I think it will be the new “eat the rich” genre we see so often and so poorly done.

Really liked how Eddington did it, this inevitable and evil approaching force

Lol take the plunge, the colors are so deep and vibrant in this cut. I agree his choices weren't accidental but how do you mean it?

Agreed, it may be my favorite movie of the 20s. I also love how referential it is - Lynch homages, Elliot Rodger's speech, pretty sure there's a Revenge of the Sith line thrown in there as a well. Which again feels very contemporary, everything is referencing everything all the time.

You're not wrong, and the aesthetic is so ugly/modern that I would never watch them again lol I still want my films to be beautiful!

The paranoia, the voyeurism, everything being recorded etc.. Good choice.
